My VFR is on its third set of Metzeler Z6 Roadtec tires. Confidence inspiring in cold/wet conditions, very good turn in and high mileage.

My Ducati has Bridgestones on it, I cant stand them, can't wait to replace 'em with Metzelers!

Best response to your query Hoss.

What kind of riding you do should dictate your tire choice.

Metzeler M3's for best grip, but medium life.
Metzeler Z4's for good all general riding.

However, I just put a set of Shinko 009 Ravens on one of my bikes and I'm liking them more and more. If you are going to carve curves and do the occasional track day, then go for the Metzelers, otherwise save quite a few bucks and get fantastic tire life with the Shinko Ravens. (Shinko is basically the old Yokohama motorcycle tire division)

Have a matched set of Conti-Road Attacks. So far I love them. Handle well in the rain (so far), and they would handle better if the rider was more adventurous I'm sure, but when it's wetI'm still a noob.

Put the front on new last year and it handled fine. Put the rear on this year and so far handles great.

Currelty have Pilot Road 2's on front and rear and hate them. I prefered the Shinko Ravens. I am not sure what my next set will be but it will not be PR2's ever again

I have four thousand miles on the PR2s, they give great traction especially on lean (no chicken strips on these) they wear very even. IMHO if you need more performance, you will probably have to buy sport bike tires and change them often.

I'd be curious to hear why you hate them. It's always nice to have both pros and cons on a brand. Bad experience?

I'm running PR2s now, and don't have any complaints.

the only thing predictable about them is they are unpredictable. I never know if they will slide or grip. on the interstate it feels like I am riding a snake, i do not feel it in the bars, just the lower part of the bike, it is not a lot but I do notice it, it could be the road could be the tire never noticed it before though. on slow corners the front has sliden out many times or failed to even start turning for a partial second as it continued to move straight. the rear locks up when I down shift, or give any gas coming out of a corner it will slide. My shinko raven with 14k on the front felt better then the pr2's did new. I have about 3k on the pr2's now and just waiting for them to wear out so I can get something else. I have tried all different pressures with very little change in the feel.

In the rain they feel ok, but dry yuk. I live on a gravel road and the feel I have riding on it is about what it feels like 40 to 60% of the time riding around town. I use to do about 250 to 300 miles commuting a week and 200 to 500 miles in twisties on the weekends. I still commute but since putting these on I might ride on the weekends 1 or 2 times a month because I will not ride alone incase they decide my time is up. My confidence level in the pr2 is negitive so now it makes me sit at home and watch tv. My confidence level on the shinko raven which is a ST long life tire also was great. I could push the ravens hard and never worried about sliding, yes they had a little slower turn in. I mounted a 006 podium on the rear when the 009 raven wore out at 10.5k, and it turned in faster had a little bit more grip with only a little bit more wear. But with everyone bad mouthing shinko's I decided to change to the pr2's, I went into them with confidence thinking they would be as good or better then the ravens.

When I 1st put the pr2's on it was a rainy day, I go to pull out of the parking spot and it spun bad, so I babied it home. Got to my street and decided to see how bad it would spin in the rain let the clutch out and hammered it. It tried to pull a wheelie with no spin, so I was sort of impressed figured the spin at the store was a fluke or slick pavement. I rode easy on them to break them in with a few random minor slides slowing down for side street turns. Once I got a couple hundred miles on them and they still hit and miss never know how they will react I started to really hate them. Maybe I have a bad set, will I spend another $300 to find out hell no.

Well on my VFR I have been through Bridgestones, Michelin, Avons and I am sold on the Dunlop RoadSmart Tyres. The Dunlop RoadSmart tyres warm up quick, good in all weather and rain, flat profile, excellent front tyre feedback, excellent mileage. For me the only tyre I would run on the VFR is the Dunlop RoadSmart. I have not tried the Perelli Angel ST tyres and I am curious about those.

I think the Angel ST are aimed at the same market segment as the Shinko Ravens but cost $50 more per set, and everybody who tries them loves them, so why spend the extra cash ?

I have been running the BT-021's but just got a nail in my rear so I replaced it with the new BT-023. Use to run Road Attacks on my Ninja and liked them a lot. I commute almost 100 miles a day so road life means a lot to me. From what I have read the BT-021's have some of the best. Would you agree/Disagree and if so which ST Tire would you recommend for the longest life?

I recently put on some battlemax bt45's front and rear, only been on for maybe a little over 1k miles. Im liking them so far, seem to have good grip in dry/rain. Although it is my first bike so i guess i dont know what tires are supposed to be capable of.

Have a Conti Sport Attack on the front and Road Attack on the rear. Street riding I have no complaints and I just got back from riding across the state and back with 50+ lbs of gear in the Givis and the bike handled great, even took it up to 135 mph (GPS corrected) at one point. However, a few weeks ago at my first track day, I wasn't inspired by the rear turning loose in heavy lean and when it rained, I just bagged it...way too slippery...

I'm running the Battlax BT-016's both front and rear. Love them.

Have been on Pilot Powers or Road 2s since 2004.

Currently on my second set of R2s front and back, both Spanish made found them very good wet or dry and unlike "Rchecks" have never had a bad moment on them on hot or cold days, torrential rain or on the goat tracks they call back roads in some parts of my state and they wear so slowly vs their excellent grip.

Next time might go with what seems to be the VFR default around here with R2 rear and Pilot Power/Pure on the Front for a quicker turnin although the new Dunlop SportSmarts are getting rave reviews at the moment so may try them next for grins.

Re The French made Power recall in '05, as far as I know they only affected the early Powers manufactued in '04/ '05, unfortunately had already replaced my first front Power a few months earlier in late '04 when it developed center tire bumps after high milage high average speed riding on a very hot weekend of riding on mainly country road rough mix surfaces so missed out on the recall but have had no problems on any of my Powers or Road 2s since.

I know this is a 5th Gen site but feel the need to reply to the above post.....

I have 1000 miles on Dunlop Roadsmarts and could not be happier with them and agree with the review emon07 gave!

I'm on my third set of Metzeler Sportec M-1's and I love 'em. Good grip, acceptable mileage, neutral handling, very reasonable pirces IMHO. I put them on my previous bike too (VTR1000) and had the same great experience.

I've always ran Bridgestone Battlax's (just installed 5th set) on my 99 and have always love them, I get about 8500 on a set.

Funny, my 5th Gen came with M1s and I was really happy because I really enjoy the M3s on my Blackbird and the Z4s on my VFR750, but I ended up not liking them at all. I ended up replacing them with a cheap set of Pilots I picked up and they are better, but I feel the same twitchyness I used to feel when I had pilots on the Blackbird. Ahh well, it's either M3s or Shinko Ravens for me for now.
