Hello all, my name is Kyle and I am currently in the Army deployed to Kirkuk, Iraq. I have actually never rode a bike before but since I had the extra money from the deployment I decided it was time to learn. So I got on ebay and found a 1986 VF500F and won the auction for $1,425. The bike has only 5700 miles on it and is in good condition according to the listing. It is still being shipped at the moment. Anyway, just saying hi and introducing myself to the VFRWorld community.
Welcome to the madness. First off Kyle, let me thank you for your service. As a retired US Navy Submariner, I know what the service to your country means. Second, when you get back, take the basic rider course and military sport bike course. They are free to active duty and well worth the time. You've been overseas for a while and plus you've never ridden, this will be a good start to your skills as a rider. If you don't have gear yet, check out http://www.newenough.com/. They have some good gear in their closeout section. It's last year / year before stuff at good prices. I recently picked up a 2 year old Scorpion Leather Jacket (orig. $400) for $150. There are alot of good people here that can give you tons of advice. Good luck with the bike and come home safe. MMCS(SS) Adam Pierce USN, Retired
Thanks. I have already signed up for the basic rider course, a buddy of mine suggested it and I am glad he did because it is full out to August 23rd which is when I signed up for it. They didn't have any of the sport bike couses scheduled though. I also picked up a Raptor 660 and bought all the gear for it and was going to use the boots and gloves for both, I will check out NewEnough for the rest of the gear that I need. Thanks again.
