    Hi Guys n Gals,

I've got a badly crashed 6th gen that I'm rebuilding, and as expected the expense of fairing panels is making my eyes water!

I have managed to Google a few results for companies knocking out full aftermarket fairing kits, and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations or experience of finding good quality/fairly priced kits?

Here's one from motocc here in the UK as an example Honda VFR 800 VTEC 2002 - 2008

Any help would be really welcome

    Thanks,

    Simon

Repairs done on ABS fairing parts are best tested on the bike not on the bench. Kind of like a fat chica in a beer joint after having 15 pints. She looks great now, but will ya respect her in the morning?

Here's an old post of the bike from before beginning the rebuild http://vfrworld.com/forums/mechanics-garage/28371-crashed-6th-gen-rebuild.html

As you can see, there's not much chance of repairing whats left of the front plastics as a lot of the mounting points are missing or destroyed. I really need replacement panels, but instead of getting 2nd hand parts from ebay etc and repairing them, I was wondering if there is anyone out there who makes complete kits.

I've done some sums and reckon that used panels will cost around £450 ($650) in ok condition.

The goal is not to get the bike back to as it was (3 weeks old and *mint*!!) but just as a runner, in one piece as a winter bike for daily use.

PS I will also need pointers on getting hold of some used fork stanchions (top section) where mine have creased, if anyone has any knocking around or can obtain some stateside there is £ waiting!!!

I ran into an old friend from HS at a bike meet. he had a CBR600 that he dropped and had aftermarket plastics on. They looked good from a distance with it's REPSOL plastics but when you really looked closer you could see difference in shades between panels and LOTS of orange peel. He also said that he had some fitment issues on the tail section and had to slice a few things out. Not worth it IMO.

Ever play the game "Whisper Down the Lane"??? This is a perfect analogy when fixing any full fairing bike.

As soon as there is one defect/alteration in the original, everything else is skewed and distorted and your a left with a VFR that should be getting painted short bus yellow and should be wearing the helmet instead of you the rider. A fraction of an inch off at a single mounting point is amplified and skews everything way off creating stress points and oval bolt holes on the plastics.

For example my bike is almost 100 percent but I need a new upper stay, I bent most of it back to place but i am off 1/4 an inch which puts a strain on the upper fairing, windscreen, left mirror mounting and all these other small creases/gaps resulting in one retarded lookiing VFR up close. mechanically it's 100 percent sound, cosmetically its "ok" but after a few drinks she looks like a million bucks.

Before only having naked bikes I never understood why people would go to a street fighter when they only have a few scratched plastics to replace. My VFR was backed into by grandma before i bought her and i am still straightening things out. I could have blown an extra 1500 and got it back to new but that would easily make it an overpriced VFR.

Best of luck to you, I would not take on the task you have given yourself. I learned from my bike that even the small accidents can distort things enough to cause thousands of dollars in damage when a full fairing bike is simply backed into.

The least of the problems on that bike is the plastic. The frame is bent. Can we say totaled.

I know what you mean engraym, my old FZR600r looks a right state even with replaced plastics due to a really low speed knock.
To bring you up to speed, I've already got my grubby hands on the front subframe/fairing bracket assembly which is confirmed fine (I saw it on the bike it was removed from with all the plastics) and the main panels, but they really are shite. Respray on the candy red is not going to be a touch-up job (can't be done, needs complete respray) so I'm entertaining any idea which involves the bike having plastics which fit, regardless of colour for the time being.

Actually the bike has been stripped completely and the frame has been jigged and x-rayed (at expense >_<) and its all good; no cracks in the head stock, and the spars are as gorgeously formed as they were when they came outta the cast in Spain, THANKFULLY!!
