I am thinking of drilling top clamp to fit on normal handle bar clamps,I think the versitility of having different styles of handle bars to choose from would be good--has anyone done this-any metal tech- engineers-that can tell me what it will do to structural integraty of the top clamp thanks

Have had this urge for many years with my second gen....would be sweet.I think your OK to drill and mount, I understand your concerns but there is little chance of pulling the mounts out of the triple clamp.

I am more worried about top trippletree clamp weaking, maybe cracking over time.It is a inexpensive mod going this way, $45.00 for clamps-$40.00-&100.00 for bars

Do a search on here for the user BASF-Jon. I'm pretty sure that is how he spells his name. If not a search for just the user BASF will work. He installed a set of bars from LSL I believe and I'm pretty sure it is documented.

I wouldn't worry about the strength of the upper triple clamp. The lower clamp is what takes all of the loads. When mounting risers to attach "superbike" style bars you only need to drill a single Ø12mm hole on each side. This really doesn't alter the strength of that part any noticeable amount.

P.S. I'm a degreed Mechanical Engineer, so that's also my professional opinion!

Thats what I thought,I think I will go this route,I am thinking that if I want a more sporty feel rotate bars forward, more relaxed rotate back just loosen clamp bolts ,THANKS JAMIE

finally got around to doing my handle bar conversion, cost was $55.00 with used handle bars,1.5 inches up and 1inch back, rerouted brake lines to other side of forks and routed throttle cables between air box and frame, have ridden around a 1000kms like it very much, not having as much pullback on bars is better on the wrists, and my grip is 1 inch wider for a little more leverage,I like the overall handling of the bike better now. The clamps are pro taper with 7/8 reducer spaced at 4 inches apart avalable at most M/C outlets,$30-$50. the bars are mountian bike handle bars from bike store,I was going to use moto cross bar but found they spaced the controls to far apart, where as these bars put controls very close to origanal width,I followed directions for rerouting cables and hydrolics as per heli bar set up,i just got back from another 550km day and this set up works great

mine are steel if I had found a set of aluminum I would have used them( lighter and just as strong),I abuse my free ride mountian with aluminum bars far more than the vfr will ever get,i paid $5.00 for a used set if I find another set aluminum cheap I will probley change them, this set up was a bit of and experment and I did not want to spend alot$$$, I also considered using a set of cafe racer bars upside down this will keep controls close together and give you a rise of 1-2 inch's depending on bar.
