Dropping 1 tooth?

    I'm want to drop one tooth on engine gear to liven up the lower gears on my VF1000F. Has anyone here done this?

    I did this on my 93 VFR750. It's quite a change. Of course, mine was done in conjunction of going +2 on the rear sprocket. by going -1 on the front, you will lose soem top end speed but will gain in the acceleration department. It will also throw off what your actual speed is vs what is shown on the speedo and also your rpm at road sped will be higher. To correct this, I went with a trail tech enduro computer which is a speedometer, odometer, and more. It runs off of a magnet whcih attaches to the front wheel. It works pretty good for me. There is a write up in the how-to section, just click on VFR Info and go to the How-to section, then go to body modifications.

    It will lower the topend and aid in doing wheelies (like they need any help!). If you like it you should go back to the stock front and go with a 3 tooth larger rear sprocket to prolong chain life. And FYI, it won't mess with the speedo, ours is cable driven off the front wheel.

    I can't find my manual but I think stock is a 43T, so that would mean going to a 46T. I haven't run stock gearing in years. I actually went down in the rear for more topend. Fortunatly I have enough torque to pull it.

    Stock gearing is 17x43. The 17t countershaft sprocket is pretty big. So is a 16T and it's probably cheaper than the rear sprocket. On the other hand, cost difference doesn't matter if you're replacing both sprockets anyway. Let us know how you like the lower gearing.

    Sorry, I should have known that the VF1000 speedo was driven from the front wheel, therefore, that being the case, the speedo reading will not be affected. Totally my fault. Continue about your business citizens......:smile:
