I was doing a pre-ride inspection and did not really notice this before, but as you can see from the pictures, it looks like the spring is not sitting properly on the shock mount. Is this normal? Should I be concerned?

Thanks for your replies in return.

Hmmm it appears that something is missing! Is there a chance that you have some aftermarket shock stuffed in there?

It looks like the adjustable preload collar is just not there!

This is what my 2002 looks like.

Thanks for the pic. As far as I know and the owner that I bought it from, the suspension is completely stock. Okay then, looks like I'll have to bring it into a dealer to have it checked out.

    Cheers

I wonder if someone was attempting to lower the bike by removing the collar, a kinda red neck lowering kit?

The difference is that the Waffle bike has ABS and the jethro bike does not. The ABS bikes have a hydraulic preload adjuster. It looks normal, the spring just overhangs the seat a little. Nothing wrong with it as far as I can tell.

Thanks CBR, it gave me a scare when I didn't have the collar on the shock. Saves me a trip to the dealer.

Ya learn somethin new every day if you just pay attention eh. I had no idea the bikes had different shocks or preload adjusters.

Does look a bit dodgy doesn't it, I would have questioned it too!
