I need a pic of the rear cylinder bank exhaust work so I can steal your best ideas for my build. Maybe some ideas on how to do it cheap.

Let's see how she runs first. This was my first exhaust and I'm no welder but I wanted to try it. There is volumes written about header design and I followed none of them.

I used a kit of mandrel bends from Fleabay, like these...Exhaust Intake piping kit tubing mandrel bend 1.5": eBay Motors (item 130393414360 end time Jun-20-10 12:49:20 PDT)

I then used ceramic coating from here...Caswell Inc. - High Temp Ceramic Coatings

If you apply it correctly, it will come out similar to the photo. It dries flat but after some 0000 steel wool and a polishing compound/creme, it will look "shinny". The photo headers were polished in a tumbler but you can get close. Actually I didn't want it to look too much like chrome, no chrome on a race bike!

All added up, I probably had under $100 into it. As with all these hair brain ideas of doing stuff myself, the next try will be even better.

Your probably doing it as well as any other mfgr. There a 2 local mfgrs of exhaust near me, and neither are rocket scientists. Mostly they make it to fit and follow everyone else's lead. Personally, I follow Ducati's lead and at least try to maintain equal volumes behiind the heads to the tail. I plan on a 2-1 after the heads at about 18" in the rear to a 1.75' connector to the rear can in the RC211V tail. The front wll be a 2-1 at 18" and probably stay 1.5" all the way to the right low exhaust, very RC211V type. using a kit from Burns Stainless. Primaries to fit the port, whatever that is. Cans are scheduled to be Yoshi RS3's cut down to about 12".

Keep working, looks great, and probably will be good too.

You've got the right idea Larry. My next one will have longer pipes before the collector. Look forward to seeing yours.

your bike is looking awesome. I'd love to rebuild my 98 with some custom tweaks, but 1. it's my primary transportation and 2. I have nowhere near the patience or skill you have. Good work!

Thanks Reg. You really don't need patience or skill, just stupidity. This is my only bike that's rideable and I missed an entire season last year because it was apart and I wanted to spend weekends with the family. It killed me and I don't want to do it again any time soon. That said, I really wanted to make it my own and tried, for better or worse, to do it all myself so it did take some time but when it's done it will be something I know I'll enjoy. It's not for everyone and the purists will scoff but what can I say. If you see it in the parking lot, you'll know it's me. Definitely not cookie cutter.

There are some things in the world that you just don't sell...an R is one of them.

Did you get your new truck?

Yep I got my 4x4..Didnt have to sell the VF..I really like my 00 CBR600F4. Its new like condition and handles like nothing else w/ good horsepower...but I catch myself thinking and wanting to ride the VF more often! lol...I dont go as fast on it and dont flog it at all..Just a enjoyable experiance of all senses. Still fighting this waterpump leak? I dont think the pump itself is leaking. Its not comming out the weephole..I think its the cover Oring..discontiniued part..Like most parts on this bike..I can ride it for the day and not a leak..Its the next morning when I noticed a pea sized drop...It dont leak much at all but it leaks..Not sure if I should mess with it untill I know how to get it fixed right...
