the parts bike i got, the tank, well, has seen better days.

the exterior is actually pretty good with the exception of a minor dent that can be fixed rather easily.

problem is there is rust, which appears to not too bad to take care of.

major issue, some dipshit used a crowbar to pop that gas cap off and the mouth is chingered to hell.

so, do i cut this tank open and find a tank that the mouth is salvageable and do some welding?

this is more of a busy job than anything else.

if your going to that amount of work, you should upgrade to a modern sport bike filler thats flush mounted

I used the filler and cap from a CBR for my '83 V45 tank. There was nothing wrong with it but I thought it would look cool. Ugly as hell after welding but looks great after some body filler and primer.

kataana, cbr, vfr 86+, gsxr, r1 r6 early 2k. really any newer sportbike would work, just depends on how much time you want to spend with the tig torch and whether or not you want it pretty flat and flush like the late 80s vfrs or if you want the little hump like the hayabusa tanks have :) id go for the most beat to hell thing i could find on ebay cheap, that hasnt been damaged around the filler hole ala stunt biker style

i've got a lead on a hayabusa tank that is in good shape, but the cap does not have a key.

guy wants 25 bucks for it.

don't know if i want to put a suzuki stamped cap on the honda though.
