Any Thing Goes is the cruiser section of the forum right?

Some folks here know that I picked up an '03 Shadow 750 last November. I've since put 3000 miles on here so far this winter. The wife and I found that the stock seat could be used to make terrorists give away their secrets but it'd be considered torture and we'd no longer be able to use that technique.

Bitterpil suggested I check out Mustang Seats. Since I've found Bitterpil "researches" crap until it's obsolete before he buys it, I trusted it was a good recommendation. Just a poke buddy, thanks a lot for the tip, I'm quite happy with the seat!

I did 235 miles in the stock seat Tuesday this week, 100 miles on Wednesday in the stock seat, and 145 miles in the Mustang seat yesterday and found it to be a night and day difference. I paid $347, new in the box, including shipping, off ebay.

New and the old seat side by side:

Upside down view of the seatpan (reverse of above, the new seat is on the right):

Notice how the Mustang seat pan is wider than the OEM. The OEM is nearly as wide but has less support underneith.

Side view of the OEM - notice the slope of the seat, like a cradle, which makes for a pressure point right on your ass-bone:

Side view of the Mustang seat, no slope = relief for your ass-bone:

    Another view of OEM:

The passenger seat is also a full 4" wider than the OEM and provides some lower back support for the driver. I told the wife that's all she gets and her ass isn't allowed to get any wider than 13". The seats raise up the driver and passenger slightly from the stock position which adds some leg comfort for both of us. You may have also noticed that the Mustang is wider under the crotch. While this provides a better rest for my heavy..... nevermind, what I meant is that it would also make for a longer reach to the ground for a short person.

Bweiss, you might have kept your Shadow if you would have picked up the Mustang Seat! Thanks again for the suggestion 'pil!

    Looks like it's very comfortable!

I like the mini "drivers backrest" sort of cutout on the new seat to keep the tailbone pressure down.

    Glad you're enjoying it!

hey TWS, i like that colour scheme, is that stock for a shadow? i see it matches the truck in the background nicely!

ive spent a bit of time on this model too, and the seat was definately a sore point after a while.

My brother has moved up to the 09 Honda 750 spirit now, which has the larger diameter and narrower front wheel
as well as shaft drive in lieu of chain and a differant handle bar set up.
it makes a big difference to the steering!

we seem to have this silver theme goin on in the garage at the moment...

and the seat on this is a bit of an ass breaker too...LOL

Richard - I bought my Shadow used but I believe the paint scheme was a factory option as I've seen photos of other bikes that year painted the same.

That silver bike of your brother's looks real sweet, thanks for sharing!

That red and black was a factory option. My 03 shadow was the same red, sans black. Pretty bikes and fun to ride (in a different way than the vfr). Sometimes i find my self missing my shadow...but then hop on the viffer and that feeling goes away.

Nice seat too, tink. I thought about getting on when I had my shadow, just when I was ready to get the seat, I was ready to get a new bike...

worth every penny. Not sure how many miles but I've had several 200 mile days and the seat is incredible.

What's better is I got nearly $200 for my old seat on ebay so the out of pocket cost on the Mustang was significantly less.

Wow that's a surprising value for a stock seat ... nice!

I just modified the VTX1800C seat to fit on my VTX1300C, mostly for passenger comfort.

This is the stock 1300C seat, awful passenger pillion:

1800C seat, two piece design with much beefier passenger pillion:

Next step will be sending it out for reworking... hopefully get a little bit of the drivers seat cut out so I sit more "in" it, as well as memory foam and gel pad inserts for both the driver's seat and the passenger pillion.
