A decent one or two piece rain suit over your regular street gear will keep you warm and completely dry, you won't have to sacrifice safety and it should store easily in a tank or tail pack. The Frog Togs may even store under the seat.

    Motorcycle Rain Suits

If you don't want to carrry extra the gear the First Gear stuff is still good for several hours in the rain.

Thats good to hear about the firstgear stuff.
I cant handle the psychological stress of watching rain clouds gather, stopping, putting on my raingear, and not getting rain only to get caught the moment I take it off in a surprise down pour without any shelter in sight any longer. I find my rides much more enjoyable when I dont have to care whether it is raining or not.

@ MAC and RUNNERHIKER, am I to gather that the roadcrafter still leaks but the transit does not? How is the Transit in the heat?

Well I can only answer, that it depends on what you call heat. I am good to at least 85 when moving. The Transit has a big write up on the Aerostich site, and what they say is true. Water proof, leather and zippers -
I liked it so well, that I bought it again in a smaller size, after dropping a few pounds.

The Transit sure sounds like a nice jacket, if you dont have short arms (I dont) and you do have $850.00 (I dont). Maybe when the next generation Transit arrives I will be in a better financial position. For now it looks like the Firstgear Raineer will have to do.
    Thanks for all your help.

I have no regrets about the Roadcrafter and I would buy it again. It leaks a little bit at the crotch because it relies on the crotch zipper for waterproofness. I believe the Transit has water proof zippers everywhere, technology just keeps getting better.

What hot temp something is comfortable in is very subjective and heavily influenced by % humidity. I have been comfortable in my Roadcrafter in 94 deg temp that was very dry - as long as I was moving. And I have been hot and uncomfortable in 85 deg weather with high humidity, I guess 90% humidity.

You'ld think Aerostitch would address that wet crotch problem.

Yeah. And I sure wish my Dad would do the same. Not fun travelling with him.

He's 94 and his prostate is pretty much shot, so he pees his pants at times. In fact, at lots of times. Satisfied now that you've embarrassed an old man? (J/K!)

I have a Flagstaff Kilamanjaro that is 2 years old, only has only seen the bike about 4 times. Its not the jacket for me, just have not gotten around to selling it.

    Its an XL.

Would sell it cheap just to get rid of it.

Update - just rode home from Calgary to Langdon in a downpour which included some hail.

I have Joe Rocket Meteor boots and Joe Rocket Dry Tech gloves.

Total time out in the wet was 35 minutes!

My jacket was dripping when I took it off so I had to hang it up in my shower to dry.

Speaking of dry - I didn't get any liquid on me except for a tad on the top of my collar - as the collar on this jacket is not as high as some.

No offense, but I have seen many jackets remain waterproof for 35 minutes only to let in the water after an hour. Sounds like a fun ride though!

I was considering that Frogg Togg stuff. Packs into the size of a 10oz. pop can apparently. I currently have a plastic 2pc. rain suit in hunter orange that I wear over my gear. It absolutely does the trick and I am very visible but I get warm and it doesn't pack as small as a breathable fabric one would.

So much for the pop can...my buddy must have been exaggerating. I just bought a Frogg Toggs rain suit and it actually doesn't squish up much smaller than my PVC one.

A Quality Brand using a laminated Gortex so ready all the time and you don't have to mess around with zip in membranes or mess around on the side of the road with PVC suits.

If you were in Oz would say without a doubt the Tigerangel Element Gortex which I have had 2 since 2003, although not cheap it's well made in Australia ( ie not China ) 100% water proof even after 6 hours or more of continual torrential rain and breaths well, unfortunately found out it even crashes well although being a textile triple laminated Cordura a throw away afterwards hence onto my 2nd one.

So I just returned my second Kilimanjaro. The Large is for a much larger torso than me, the medium is for someone with very skinny arms (I am 6 foot 180lbs no belly). Also I question the vents ability to stay open and the liners ability to insulate.
    Back to the drawing board.
I wish my local shop stocked this stuff.

It rains some in my hood. The Aerostitch pants do get a little wet in the crotch. Part of this is water running off the tank and onto the seat..(doh!)

There are all sorts of reliable products to fix the the pants. A two buck bottle of tent seam sealer works a treat.

Rubber panties are a close second if one can find the larger sizes in the baby dept at WalMart. This is one of those dont ask, dont tell things so be advised.

    John,

Approximate cost in USD? My Aerostitch is holding up extremely well and I have a Hein Gericke Paris/Dakar that they will probably plant me in..this jacket sounds really great.. Nothing like Gore-Tex..
