I belive that when you first start the bike the ABS stays on untill the bike goes over 10 or 15 mph.

do you have the service manual? in section 16-5, it talks about how to retrieve the problem code for the ABS system. the manual i have is for a 2002, but i would assume it is similar.

the easiest thing it mentioned was that a tire with too low an air pressure could cause the light to come on.

Thanks Sound. I'll recheck my tire pressure but unless it dropped a whole lot since I checked and added air Sunday morning that shouldn't be the problem. Both tires were at 42 psi when I rode out Sunday morning. I do have a service manual but its at my parents house and don't really have the time for the next few days to get out that way. Guess I'll have to fit in a "visit"...
On another note, I'll be heading out your way on Saturday. Not staying in Honolulu though, I'll be up in Kuaui. I need this vacation!!!

if you want i could email it to you. i think my provider will let me send that large a file. haven't tried it before, so i am not sure.

i have only been to kauai once a long time ago. it is a quiet laid back place from what i remember... compared to oahu, kauai is more of what people picture "hawaii" to be.

well if you just want to ck the system, disconnect the battery and clear the code and wait and see if it comes back on.
also ck the speed sensor rings to see if it has any crud on them.

If you disconnect the battery does the code automatically clear... or is there something else you have to do to? Dealer just called me and said mine is staying on too after they replaced the wiring harness.... to my knowledge it was not doing that prior to the harness being replaced and I rode it to the dealer to drop it off for the wire harness recall.
