Cleaned the carbs, new fuel filter and plugs.Have to get rid of the stale gas. Replaced Start switch and fixed a few other gremlins. Got her running. Idles a bit ragged, but no bad noises. Next is to set the pilots and synch the carbs. Gonna be on the street soon. Changed the brake fluid, front and rear, need to bleed the brakes next. Good to hear it run, wouldn't run without choke when I first bought it.

A couple more pics, Painted my "practice fender" (got a new one coming from one of our friendly forum members) with duplicolor metalcast red I had hanging around in my shop. Turns out, it is a very close match to the original Candy red on the bike. The fork brace was all scratched, and the clear coat was coming off(looked like hell), so I removed the clear coat with lacquer thinner, autosol, elbow grease and a buffing wheel in my drill. i then shot it with Duplicolor metalcast silver . Will put it together tomorrow, see how it looks

Yes sir, here is the rattle can I used. You lay down a ground coat of silver, then apply the color. As long as you use good quality paint (not the bargain bin bombs you see in the hardware store), you can do a good job. Be patient, several light coats instead of a couple heavy ones. My favorite trick is to paint just before I go in for the night. That way, you're not kicking up dust to stick to your paint. Will assemble later this afternoon and send a pic

Looks pretty good! I've got an '84 VF1000 that someone repainted in the OEM colors but obviously used some cheap rattle cans. I wonder how that duplicolor paint would do on larger fairings?

Thanks, Capn, Gonna give the bike a wash and then put the fender back on, see how it looks with the stock red. Will post pics in a bit. Have to put it outside in natural light to see how it looks. Flourescent lighting distorts colors too much. A little trick I learned from an old painter I used to work with. Always look at paint samples in natural light.

Quick update. Got insurance and plate today and went for ride in town. Only problems I had were it wanting to die when I came to a stop espeically after a high speed run(doesn't do it when it is cold) and the tach bouncing erraticly on the way home. Guess I'll have to dig into the carbs, re-synch and open up the pilots a bit. Does turning the screws out add fuel or air on these carbs? I think it's way too lean. It does start good though

Update: Set the pilots, 1 1/12 turns out synched the carbs with the tool below.

She now runs way smoother, no more ragged idle, better throttle response on the bottom end. Took Mrs. Grilldemon for a ride, gained mucho brownie points doing that. Now to fix the tach failing at highway speeds. Read a post about it might be the pulse generator coil. Any ideas? Now I get to work on cosmetics. The bad bondo job on the tank has to go, and I'm fighting the urge to rip it apart so i can paint it (cuts into the short riding time). Will post pics as I clean up the ugly paint and bodywork.

Very Nice! I used to ride one of those when I was stationed in San Diego back in 91' and I still miss it!

    Update:
Added some bling to the back end. New Battlax skin, and Spiegler SS brake line to rear caliper. Painted the caliper stay arm red and repainted the rear caliper with black VHT Caliper paint

Lines are smoke color with Red ends and banjo bolts. Fresh DOT 4 fluid, makes a big difference in braking.
Now I just gotta go scrub the rear tire.

Also got the lower fairing painted and installed:

And I built a rack for saddlebags and tailbag:

Looking good! Do you have a pic of the rear rack without bags?

BTW, I got a note from someone that added a Givi rack to the 1KF. Might be another option if you want Givi hard bags which I'm considering, at some point.

I bought a complete set of silver Givi Monokey cases complete with Wingrack that was on a Kawasaki Zephyr. The mounting kit for the Kawi was included in the deal, and with some minor modification fit my 84 VF1000F Interceptor.

All I really had to do was drill an extra hole in the side bars (where the helmet lock and reflectors are; which had to be removed). And I did have to fabricate a spacer so the topcase mounting plate would clear the rear cowl.

BTW, is that a Corbin seat?
