I'm looking for some detailed photos of the fuel line connections on a 1985 VF500F 49-state model. I picked up a "parts" bike that is otherwise complete, and thought I could compare it to my complete 1986 to figure out what is missing. The service manual is only of limited help.

For one thing, there seems to be an extra fuel inlet on the left side of the carb rack on the 1985 that doesn't exist on the 1986. The PO of the 1985 ripped out all of the fuel lines due to a failed fuel pump, but didn't put anything back. Has anyone successfully removed the fuel pump without swapping in a tank and petcock from a 1986? Also, there is another (vacuum?) connection on the petcock, and I can't figure out what it connects to.

This thing will fire up with with starter fluid, and I have been able to get some fuel to start flowing down from the tank. That's when I noticed the third fuel connection to the left side of the carbs...

Can anyone help out here? Anyone in the Chicago area with a working 1985 bike I can take a closer look at?

my '85 500 only has 1 fuel connection. Fuel line runs from the tank to the filter, to the pump, and to the left side of the carbs. The remaining connections are all vacuum.

Are you asking about a Magna or an Interceptor?

Hmmm, in that case, where do the two larger connections on the top of the carb rack connect to? That may explain why the thing doesn't run when I pour fuel down those lines...

Ok, i'm having the same issue here but i'm still lost. I have a 85 vf500f Interceptor that I got partially disassembled. The fuel line was split to two lines one pluggng in somewhere between the carbs and one going to the right side of the carb on the right (just have a feeling this isn't right). On my 84 vf500c Magna the line runs to the outside of the left carb, but theres not a place on the 85 to put a line there. Any help (pictures if you got em) would be greatly appreciated, i'm trying to get this one working so I have a rider while i do a rigid chop, lower and stretch on my magna.

That sounds like 86 carbs. The 84 and 85 carbs with fuel pump have the fuel connection on the left side. The 86 has the fuel connection in the middle, straight down (more or less) from the fuel tank. Can you trace the fuel line from the tank? Does it go toward the back of the bike or the front?

The bike is def. a 85 and it does have a fuel pump but I think somebody along the way put 86 carbs in it. Not long after I posted I found a pic of and 86 carb and the hoses looked set up the same as mine. So yea guess its time to rip em off and clean em out cuz it just wont run on its own, runs off starter spray but not off the gas.
