Need to replace my chain. Should I go with an o-ring style? I was told that an rk gold chain would be just fine but i'm not sure. Having a chain is new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.
O rings, and X rings, are both good. Just do not get a chain with a clip style master link, they are too weak for your purpose. It is advised to replace your sprockets at the same time as your chain. I believe that RK and DID were both used as OEM. Mac
here we go again, I have used a clip style master on my 6th gen for past 3 years no problem. I also use a non O ring chain, just a bit more work to clean and lube it but for the cost I have 2 ( $40 ea ) so easy enough to keep one clean and swap it out.
Here's the set up I went with on my 5th gen. D.I.D. 530VM X'ring Chain & Steel Sprocket Kit - HONDA VFR 800F1 98-01 - Sprocket Center 17/43 stock gearing. I like the stock gearing on the 5th and you don't have to deal with the increased speedo/odo errors if you change gearing. New chain and sprockets = smoooooth !
