about to tackle the infomous valve issue, what gaskets? best place for parts?

    any visible scaring is a sign of excess wear IMO. If there is scoring then you've already worn thru the hardened surface and wear will happen much faster from here. The wear happens on the lifter first. I wouldn't be surprised at all by 2 turns loose if you saw scoring on the lobes. You might want to start keeping your eyes open for some spare cams and lifters. You won't see wear on the valves unless you removed the lifter from the head.

    Yep, those cams are toast.
    Once you wear through the hard candy shell there is only buttery chocolate.
    Hopefully you have another unmelted set around.
