Not to mention put it back together.... haha. Raped and pillaged it for the newer one. Gonna take it all apart and re-build it I think. I also have some ideas for making the rear section MUCH lighter and stronger. We'll see.

Do you guys think it would be worthwhile to do the front end swap and leave the rear alone?
I kind of like the idea of an 18" rear since I have one on my CB also.

You will get better tires with the rear, but absolutely swap out the front end.

Tire choice for 18" wheel is poor at best. Endless choices in 17". So many reasons to bail on stock set up .

oooooooooooookayyyyyy, so in my mind-numbing research on the F2 wheel swap(s) on these old beasts, I just happened to run across this thread (again). to my shigrin, it looks like there are a number of folks on this thread that seem to be well versed in the ins and outs of getting these F2 wheels onto these bikes. Enter my insanely involved (what I call) "Full Suspension Overhaul" project.

Aside from the F2 wheels, I have been in close contact with Jamie Daugherty in an effort to secure all the happy, fun parts of this ridiculous project. I have the rear shock covered through Jamie (an F3 donor shock is actually on its way to me now, which I will in turn send to Jamie to be converted to a VFR shock), as well as a set of F2 wheels (front and back). The front seems pretty straight forward, as all it needs is a minor modification (shameless plug, Jamie does this modification for a very reasonable fee, which I will soon be shipping him the front wheel to have handled), and the rear wheel seems to be a big pain in the ass.

So down to brass tax guys, and the point of this post (and resurrecting this thread to begin with). I am looking for as close to a step-by-step guide on swapping the rear wheel onto this bike as I can get. I know I am going to need the wheel itself, the cush pads, hub, bearings, and Daugherty-made spacers for this, but there are still a few places where I am fuzzy. First off, I noticed that Yonan used the F2 rear brake caliper. Does this make the swap any easier, or is it just as well to go with the stock VFR caliper that is already on the rear wheel? What else needs to be modified in either case? (ie I have the impression that the Caliper Stay Arm (or as Honda calls it, the "torque link" needs to be moved outboard and bent into an "S" shape, but what else needs to be done?)

I notice that Yonan names Toe Cutter and Supertex as really useful resources in this project, and I'd really like to hear what you guys have to say or what input you have on this deal. (Also, how'd your F2 conversion end up, Fatso? I've been dying to see the results on your bike too.)

    Thanks guys!

As we have already talked about, the hondavfr.org site is about the best place for a step-by-step set of instructions. That site outlines an entire front end swap, which is actually more involved than what you are considering (F2 wheel only).

I think you'd find that using the F2 rear caliper is a double edged sword. On one hand the caliper bracket part is easy because you just use the F2 piece. On the other you have the problem with fabricating a way to attach the stay arm to the F2 bracket. Definitely the rear has issues by doable nonetheless.
