hi all, daz here.just joined the forum.question: just been given a RC24, VFR750 FG 1986, with no plastics, lights or clocks. I'm building a CAFE RACER PROJECT. need to know if there is any ECU issuses, if i decied to put a custom speedo on the bike with no rev counter. or do i need to do anything else to the wiring loom as i'm slimming down the loom, geting rid of fuel guage, temp gauge & idiot lights & turn signals, help with this small matter would be greatfull. cheers, DAZ.

You will not have a problem up to REDLINE. But after that YOU will be responsible not the tachometer holding you in check- thats all.
But it has been that way for 50 years. Of coarse it will work. I guess the manufacturers think all the guys on sport bikes have a lack of "control" so they have the tachometer cut off the ECU when you go over redline. The ECU (spark unit) has a wire that goes straight to the tachometer. I would just not cut the wire off too short in case in the future someone would want to hook it back up.

It will run just fine with the tach unplugged and you can rev the livin shit out of it and it will just laugh at you, a very tough engine. I pin mine to the limiter every time I ride just to be an ass, after 24 years of unbridled abuse I am no longer concerned about it.

I ripped my bulky stock cluster off of my 79 CB750 and made my own gauge cluster with indicator lights when I was building my cafe racer. Here it is mocked up with the LED's for my indicator lights. My low oil pressure light would burn a hole through your face shield it was so bright!

I just started my new project. It's a Kawasaki 750cc Triple H2. Will have a VFR swing arm on it :)

You really should have the oil light at a minimum. a simple LED would work great.

Best advice I can give you is get a manual or at least the schematics for the complete wiring harness and you will be able to see what can be scrapped and find places to slice and splice into for any quirky things you may want to add to the bike.
