ok...so my fan doesn't seem to turn on and the temperature gauge is all the way up.

I tested the fan by jumping it with a battery and it turned on...once i figuered how to connect it properly to a 12v source

the fan shroud was bent and not causing the fan bad to move.that explains why fuses were blowing..so i fix the shroud..reinstalled and the fan doesnt turn on..yet again

I am thinking the sending unit on the side of the rad is bad..I am going to drive the bike until the temp gauge goes up again then test for the resistance reading once its hot.. will let you all know

    any ideas...did I miss anything?

Jump the wires at the thermo switch , if it comes on it is a bad switch. Very common failure.

TC means that if you touch the sensor wire on the radiator to ground, the fan should run if the fan and its connections are good.

Before spending the $60 Honda wants for the new thermoswitch, do a search cuz a $10 switch from any autoparts store will work if you know the correct size, Eichlin i think.............or just install a manual switch.

Those thermoswitches are even less reliable than the voltage regulators !

ok...so I test the switch when the bike is overheating...gauge is way up and the coolant is like boiling....so I assume its at 212 F/ 100C

The sensor reads 16 ohms..which is fine according to the manual...and guess what, the fan now turns on!

I think I may have an intermittent problem....

Ill monitor it for the next day or so and then look to replace it with the eichlin as squirrel suggests...if I can find one or fork out the $50.00 CAD that the dealer wants.

Check this out and tell me what the thread size is please: WELLS Engine Management Systems - Data / Specification Sheets: Fan Switch Applications Search

    M16 or M22...probably M22 given the size

Keep in mind that water boils at 212 degrees and the whole point of adding coolant is to raise the boiling point. Coolant typically doesn't start boiling until closer to 260 degrees.

My fan doesn't work either but how did you actually connect it to the battery?

Switch should turn fan on at 225 F and off at 210F. I've been plagued with this problem on and off for six years, and already have replaced the switch, and had the dealer replace the fan and the ignition wiring harness to try to cure the problem.

I'm about to replace the switch for a 2nd time, and am close to hardwiring a manual swich with a direct connection to the battery myself. I just hate to cut into a wiring harness and create new weatherproofing problems and have a goofy looking switch mounted somwehere accessible.

    .....................................................

EVery failed thermoswitch i've seen seems to be marked to switch on at 100 C. --boiling point --on the earlier generations, including yours.

The gentlemen at Honda should send out lifetime free replacements for these parts. Honda probably didn't make them, but they are responsible for the reliability of their suppliers. After all, in some cases the failed switch could cause damage to your engine from overheating. Blooda tragic that is ! Shouldn't be 'llowed ! Corprate robbas !!
