I have a 6 gen (2003 VFR800) with 20,000 miles (I am the second owner) and lately is has been shuting off everytime I downshift from 3rd into 2nd.
I even increased the idle rpm a bit thinking that this will solve the problem, but no, it is still there.
I dont know if its coming from the cluth lever switch or something else. The bike has black levers, so I am guessing these are aftermarket.
    Anyone else with this problem?
    Thanks

any possibility of the neutral/kickstand switch being faulty? it's designed to cut the engine should the kickstand be down or not fully retracted

are you using the eingine as a brake, shifting from 3rd to 2nd then when you pull in the clutch for the shift to 1st it stalls??

Hows your throttle? Too much slack? This happened to me before, taking out the slack will eliminate the problem. Happened on Sunday, just once, and fixed it later, tested it, went away. My records indicate it was about 1400 miles since last adjustment

    ok, lets explain,
let say I am going in 3rd gear down the road and i need to make a right hand turn next.
so i slow down, hit the brakes, pull the clutch, down shift, sometimes i try to blip the throttle to match the revs if I am going fast, but most of the time by the time i do the downshift the engine shuts off, with the clutch engaged, so while I am still riding with the clutch engaged, I the starter, it takes a while but then it start, ITS ANNOYING!!!!
I dont think its the kickstand switch otherwise it will happen on any gear.

    it is a mapping issuse...
stop blipping the throttle and it should go away some what.. Also if any slack in throttle cable adust it out at the throttle bodies.
also helps if you dont use the engine as a brake above 5,000 rpm..
I have had no issuse w/ mine since I took off the emissions stuff and pair valve delete.

before you go taking things off the bike. make sure all the "safety" devices are working correctly nuetral switch, side stand switch etc.. once you determine that they are functioning correctly (or incorrectly) go to the mechanical side, throttle slack and the other stuff folks have recommended...
    just my small .02

well, it is still happening. I took some slack of the throtle hoping it will fix the issue but it is still shuting off when shiftin from 3rd to 2nd, even witout bliping the throttle.
It is really getting on my nervers, I am now afraid to downshift on corners with oncoming traffic, as the bike might shut off and I'll be stranded in the middle of the road!!!! This is dangerous!!! I have told the Honda dealer but they said that there is nothing wrong. I wonder if this has to do with the recall of the wiring harness. It only happens from 3rd to 2nd.
