    Hey,
Hope this the right place to pose this question. I found a nearby Honda shop with a new/old stock, set of OEM side cases, at a smoking price. The only problem is they're blue and my VFR is red. So I'll need to do a repaint and I'm thinking red or gloss black. Anybody have any experience removing the hinge pins to get the lids off? When I examined the hinges, the hinge pins are open (exposed) on one end and covered on the oposite end. I think I could carefully use a dremel to exposed the covered end and then drive the hinge pin out, to remove the lid. However, I'd hate to try the removal and booger up a new set of bags. If anybody can offer any guidence or ideas I'd appreciate the input. I assume the painter could leave the lids in place and mask off the unpainted portions, but he stated he'd prefer to paint the lids off the cases.
    TIA,
    Ned

$350.00. At least that's pretty stunning to me!

For that price, I'd take them to a local paint shop and have them do it to match the bike! Wow, wish I could find a set at that price!

I painted my Red hard bags silver myself and I didn't have to remove the top covers, just spent some time taping properly and I think they turned out OK for a rattle can job. Of course the Red is prettier. The other side had heavy scratches, had to take it down to the plastic.

Scubalong: No more bags at the dealer. They'd had these around for a long time and wanted to move them along. I guess I was at the right place at the right time for once.

Brock915: That rattle can job looks pretty dang good! Would you mind sharing the prep and post finihing steps you went through, as well as the paint source? I know nothing short of point & shoot, but I'd be tempted to try if I had a good chance of succeeding. Does the fact the bags are (I assume) ABS require special paint? THX, Ned

Ok so I am going to catch shit for this but 'here goes.(http://vfrworld.com/forums/anything-goes/29851-paint-my-hardbags-aka-not-painting-wifes-bike.html) So I painted my hardbags because of scratches. (no guys Im still not done...get off my nuts) what I did to match the paint, and this may not be the best way to do it. I brought my pillon seat cover into Autozone and found a super, close to matching paint. In fact if I didnt tell you that I had painted them you would never know. If you do paint them yourself one bit of advice....Beer is your friend and enemy. It gives you confidence to paint the bags but....when you wake up in the morning with plaid hardbags, dont say I didnt warn you.

Vfrapid, sure I was thinking of posting a how to anyway, it will just take a few days due to riding course this weekend, I took pics of each stage. Believe it or not I found some clearance Duplicolor paint at a local store. I just eyeballed the color and it turned out very close. I used black primer and Acrylic clear coat. I noticed after the job that it would have matched better if I would have used a lighter gray or white primer.
