HID Upgrade Progress Photos (Update #1)

    And so it begins!

I purchased a set of H4 bi-xenon HID's. I'm very experienced with HID installs. Over the past few years I've installed them in several different vehicles. The set I purchased this time are from my regular source, VVME. In 3 days I had them in my hands from China.

I took off the fairing, headlights, and all that good stuff. I had to modify the ears on the new set so only 1 of the 3 was left. This is due to the odd configuration of our "H4" bulbs. Not sure what's going on, but these seem pretty specific to our bikes? This is as far as I've gone at the moment, so here's a shot. Stay tuned for more updates!

Right Side (Still deciding how to shield the ballast from the heat):

    Everything is wired and working:

you should look into the slim ballasts. they fit quite nicely under the hood. and heat is not a problem

It's nice to see another VVME fan. Was stripping all front plastics really necessary? I didn't have to do all of that. Is there a difference in the beam pattern when the bulbs actuate from low to high?

sadly, it's much easier to do the install with the front plastics off; including the gauges. and in order to remove the front plastics, the sides need to be removed as well.

i didn't replace the high beams. left those halogen because in reality the HID's sometimes require a good 20 seconds to fully warm up and i don't use my high's all that much any way.

I've purchased a few different brands of the slim ballasts and have never been really happy with them. They seemed to have issues every time I used 'em. That's the reason I went with these, regular ballasts, as *knock on wood* I've never had an issue.

Since this is a Bi-xenon HID kit they are instant high/instant low, precisely the same as stock headlights. To access the lights properly, as well as mount the ballasts, I wanted full access.

Dude, I knew that the highs did not need upgrading, but I went ahead anyway. At the very least, they are extremely effective at getting people to get the heck out of my lane. I guess they are kinda bright, LMAO.

Fireman, do the reflector housings throw the beam far enough forward when you flick the lights into high?

In every bi-xenon application they do. It uses an electro-magnetic glare shield which moved forward/backward to allow light to be placed in optimal high or low beam locations within the reflector housing. Have not finished this bike yet, so I can't say for sure on here, but it looked good while I was messing with it. Trying to get it back together today so I can quick take it out tonight and confirm it works well.

Talk about being able to SEE! I love these conversions. All seems well. I left them mounted where they are shown in the photos above. I will take beam and spread shots once I get around to it this week if I get a chance.

Out of curiosity, where'd you mount your ballasts?
