My 98 seems to have an odd shaped bulb. I thought they were H4's but normal H4's don't seem to fit.. wtf.. Help? lol... Thanks.

Some VFRs and others have a "Honda" sized receptacle. This allows Honda to charge 2-3 times as much for a bulb as your friendly autoparts store.

Several fixes for this including tin snips and shims in the archives.

Just bend back two of the tabs 90 degrees or cut them off and they slip right in and work perfectly. You can get H4 bulbs at an auto parts store for well less than $10.00 each. Honda wants over $30.00 last time I checked.

BadBilly is right. 5th gens use a "modified" H4 bulb. There are several solutions to make a stock h4 bulb fit and I believe that adapters for them can be found on EBay.

I posted the source for the shims on another similar thread. I have misplaced the invoice. Gotta say by removing the ears on the bulbs the fit is gonna be loose. The shims are about 12 bucks. Save a couple of bucks shipping by calling in the order and have them USPS the shims rather than UPS for 5-6-7 bucks. The shims are stainless and wieigh less than a couple of sheets of typing paper. A first class stamp is all that is needed.
