    Good Morning,

I just picked up an outstanding 2005 VFR in friggin mint condition. Apparently it was in storage for 2 years. Only 4,000 miles on it and an extended warranty that is good till July of 2012. Got it for under $6,000, I consider that a great price for this outstanding machine.

Anyway, IMHO, the stock exhaust is simply too quiet. Sounds like a BMW. Nice and quiet. I like a little sound. Its a MOTORCYCLE, not a car...

So, with the help of a few of you on this board and a great mechanic I spoke with at a Honda Dealer in NJ (East Hanover Power Sports) it was clear to me that two brothers was a great choice. I think the sound is perfect. Not too loud and not at all like many of the whining crotch rockets I hear that you can literally hear from miles away...

I installed the system myself, this is quite the accomplishment for someone that is not that mechanically inclined.

Further, my regular mechanic that works on customizing my Honda VTX 1300 took a look and said the fender sucks and the side foot pegs should go too. I agreed.

The picture below is the result. I'm happy and total cost was $720.00 bucks. You can get the exhaust at sportbikeneeds on e-by - I believe this is the best price you will find. Or you can call them at 574-262-0200. They are great people. Two Brothers was having shipping problems and the Customer service rep Michelle and the manager Travis both got involved and had my exhaust 2 day overnighted to me for free. Got it in 5 business days from California to NJ, including the delay !!

All the best for a safe and fun riding season,

    Doug

Looks great Doug! Like I said in the PM, keep an eye on the mid pipe there and make sure it isn't catching some boot-heel when it heats up. I was looking at these heat shields when I had the Microns (since then have switched to the gutted stockers with heat shield in place): TARGA SPORTBIKE EXHAUST HEAT SHIELD - BLACK - Targa

I guess I've still not come to grips with the fact that motorcycle parts are priced very high - but $34 for a little piece of perforated metal?? Come on... lol

You can eliminate the license plate bracket even further if you'd like... here is a pic of my bike, hopefully you can get the gist of where the plate is:

Yeah, your plate location is definitely better. For what it's worth, it wasn't a money issue, just going along with my mechanics advice and wanted to do something "now". I had the exhaust so I took the opportunity to eliminate the fender per my mechanics advice. Works for now but I'm sure I will change it soon enough.

I want to get a FULL HEADER and kill the the CAT and also a Power Commander tune to bump up power even further. The approach I took here allows me to get some "sound" which is what I wanted. It feels like I got maybe 2 or 3 more Horses but nothing substantial. The bigger job will be bigger dollars and yield bigger results. When I get the full job done I will likely need to hire someone for that, especially the tune for the Power Commander unit.

I still need to do some more work to the VTX 1300 so for $700 bucks I did the work myself and got it done in less than a week.

BTW, your bike looks great !! and it looks like you have more sound from your Micron system. Question, are they slip on's or is that a full header, kill the Cat and PC tune? I forget what you have done... "gutted stockers"? What does that mean?

    Later,

    Doug

if you remove the sound diffusers you'll be able to get more sound out of the Two Bros system, that's how i run mine.also they will get a little louder as they get milage on them to burn them out a bit.

That was an old picture... I don't have the Microns anymore. "Gutted stockers" is referring to my current exhaust setup - the stock exhaust which I gutted the baffles/internals out of.

The Micron is a "slip on" system like your 2bros - replacing everything from the cat, rear. No tuning was done.

Here's a pic of my bike as it sits now:

Looks great Doug, nice job! Wait'l that mid-pipe turns gold, you're gonna love it. I added a link should you want to trim your fender a little more. I think this is the best one and it takes no time or skills to install, great for guys like me.

Thanks for the info... I'll let them run a while and see how the sound develops. I like it now, but a decibel higher would be nicer, but not too much louder. My VTX is LOUD and sometimes too much sound is a bit much for my liking....

You guys are great, I really appreciate the tips, info and links... I noticed the "chrome" already slightly changing and thought...WTF??? if that is what it's supposed to do then at least I know.. I'm not a chrome nut, especially on a bike like this, but a nice hue of gold might be cool... I guess I just have to wait and see...

    Thanks again,

    Doug

OK, so you "gut"/"rip out" all the insides/baffles of the stock system and go with that sound. I'd love to hear that one of these days... I'm interested..

So your bike is essentially stock except for the gutted exhaust and fender eliminator? How do you like the "power surge" at approx 7k RPM due to the VTEC technology? Is that what causes that almost "turbo charged" boost in power? The VTEC technology? I mean the bike just seriously boosts and the sound explodes louder as well. Very cool feeling... A little "unnerving" throttling aggressively through a turn though...

    Regards,

    Doug

Yes I basically cut the tips off the exhaust, and pulled out all the piping/baffling from inside, then welded the tips back on. It sounds nice, but I can guarantee that your aftermarket system sounds better. However, this was "free-ish".... the bike came with the Microns which I sold to finance the rest of the maintenance work/parts the bike needed (fluids, tires, brakes, thermostat, etc) and bought a set of stock pipes for $30. I'm sure we'll get together to ride some point in the near future and we can compare.

As far as the VTEC goes, if you're riding aggressively and really having a grand ole time, you shouldn't have to worry about the VTEC transition since you should just be in VTEC (higher than ~7k RPMs) at all times. Or so I'm told..... I have a hard time with that, since I'm used to the VTX which redlines somewhere around ~5k RPMs, and pushing this bike to ~12k RPMs is heart-wrenching! But, if you're really getting on it through a turn, you should already be above the transition point, I think....

If I'm at WOT when cruising through the VTEC transition, I don't feel it, but if I'm slowly accelerating through the transition, it does feel like it rests for a moment before catching its breath again. The power commander should alleviate this problem, but I'm spending that money more towards the bagger transformation on the VTX...
