Hey, all you aftermarket slip-on modders out there...I am on the verge of a purchase and have narrowed down to Micron or Staintune. Both companies stand behind there product, they look good, bla bla bla.
Super. Got it. WHICH ONE SOUNDS BEST?! I realize this is the debate of all debates, but sooooo close to buying, just looking for a few more soundbites from fellow 5th Genners to give me that final nudge.

Tell me why you like yours vs another (even if it is not Micron or Staintune)

    Thanks all!

Think Staintunes are the best for quality, never need repacking, legal with Spud in and I quite like their Raspy V8 like note...

Was originally after a Staintunes High mount for my Gen 5 but ended up with an ARROW Special Parts Carbon as it was shop display Unit and they were selling cheap as no longer a distributer for ARROW.

It like most Carbon cans sounds great in the lower to Mid Rev's but think it misses out in sound definition to Staintunes at higher Rev's.

Mind any aftermarket can sounds good on a VFR, friend with a CBR600RR with Yoshi and who thinks the VFR " a Fat old thing " regularly comments how Brilliant the v4 sounds when he follows...

Can't comment as I'm to loyal to a certain brand plus it's on a 4g which sounds way better IMHO

Why not let us know what brand you like. its always good to hear of as many options as possible.

Admittedly the best bike I have ever heard is a '96 Gen 4 with a Tingate Race exhaust ( measured at 104db ) that sounds very much like a worked Mopar V8 however with the same end cans not sure I'd agree a Gen4 sounds any better than a pre cat Mk1 Gen 5, both are v4 with 360 Deg Cranks which is what gives the VFR ( Gens 3,4,5&6 ) its unique and wonderful exhaust note ?

Thanks. I agree. Any and all opinions are welcome!!! That is what makes this site so awesome and powerful, the diversity of experiences and responses (and noticably less pissy than other discussions I've seen, BTW).

I hereby open the floor to anyone to opine on ANY pipe, not just Micron or Staintune. Sell me! Anything is better than this stock can, but I want the BEST for my $$.

If you go the Staintune route; please post where you find the best price. I think I will be going that route sooner or later.

    Correction, Gen's 3, 4, 5 & 6 have a 180 Deg Crank, the RC30, RC45 and VF1000R have 360 Degree Cranks.

Well, got my chrome Micron in the mail today and ripped the box open like an 8 yr old on Christmas day and went to work.

    Two words: MI CRON!!

I will renew my vows tonight with my "newly improved" best girl...who's voice is now as deep as Barry White's.

    Life is good!

    Took the plugs out

Took the plugs out of my new staintunes, took it for a ride  and got about as close as you can to ejaculating, without actually soiling me undies.

You'll find the Staintunes just gets better and better as it burns in over the next 6-12 months...very

I find the note gets slightly 'deeper' with age(if that's the right word), between 3-5k rpm it really bellows.

Spike--it depends on your gen. 98-01's slip-ons are listed at 450 bucks. 2002 and up are nautrally more ($809) because of the dual exhaust.

    What gen is your VFR?

The "deal" is 10% off and free shipping. Whup-tee-doo. Very expensive pipe, they should ship free.

I have only heard a Two Brothers C5 Titanium high mount and my Staintune high mount. C5 on a 99 and staintune on my 98 and on an 01. The C5 had at least 8K miles on it and it sounded BAD ASS! Super deep and authoritative. The packing was probably worn on it but I loved it. I ended up going with the staintune because I had heard one several years back and remember it sounding like a V8 and most claim staintune is king for the VFR. At first listen, it wasn't deep and didn't sound like I remember it sounding on the 01. More of a cackling exhaust sound. I was actually disappointed at first and thought I made a mistake by not going with the C5. The more I have driven though, the better it seems to sound and mellow out. So far I only have 2K miles on it but it does sound better now than when it was new. I have a video in the "Exhaust Sound Clips" thread on the second page of when the pipe was new. I would check that out to see what you think and compare to others. It also depends on the look you are going for too. Staintune is slender and polished. That C5 was big in diameter and had the titanuim finish similar to Micron. I must say that having a polished pipe and having nothing else polished makes it look a little strange. That's why I'm stripping part of my rear wheel and polishing part of the frame over the winter to help accentuate the rest of the bike to go with the pipe. But like I said, it's all in what look you want to go for with the sound. Polished, carbon, titanium, fat, slender, etc. Everyone is different. I haven't really heard anyone complain that their aftermarket exhaust didn't sound good on the VFR. Some say that Two Brothers can get too loud, but too loud is a matter of perspective. I don't think that you can really go wrong with whatever you get. I would see what people's top choices are and go with one of those.

I'm not sure what model this thread is talking about, but for the VTEC, Microns sound *heaps* better than staintunes. All the prev gen VFRs with staintunes sound great, but for some reason the acoustics of VTEC staintunes leaves a lot to be desired.

have a read of this thread (which was quite surprisngly featureing my bike! )

mvi0019,mvi0020 and mvi0021 also all feature a VTEC with microns ;)

I recently purchased a 2001 gen5 with an Akrapovic titanium slip-on. I think it sounds awesome but have yet to come accross many others to compare. Anyone else heard this configuration??
