I've tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to uncover specific info on this mod. I ride an '06 and really want to address the choppy, abrubt throttle response at low speeds while spending little to no $ if possible. If anyone feels like sharing their experience with this modification, I would greatly appreciate this as well.

    Thank you,

The connections for the sensors is under the left lower cowl, inside a clear plastic sleeve (for protection) with several other harness connections. I have only done this mod with a Power Commander install so I cant say how well it would work as a stand alone mod. The Power Commander is a huge improvement to the throttle and kick myself for not doing it sooner.

I tried several maps and with the stock exhaust you must use the stock map, it would run ok with a more aggresive map but would flat stall in a wheelie if the throttle was blipped, like the throttle cable had snapped. I have not loaded a different map since the exhaust was installed, it has been running so good and I have been a little busy that I have just let it go for now.

I just did this successfully on my 04.

    You will need these: 330 ohm 1/4 W resistors 330 ohm 1/4W 5% Carbon Film Resistor pk/5 - RadioShack.com
Don't get anything except the 1/4 watt. There have been various reports of other wattage resistors triggering the FI light. 1/4 W never seemsto have any problems.

Then follow this guide: Make Your Own O2 Sensor Eliminators - VFR Discussion

I trimmed the leads on my resistors to about 1/2" in length so that the resistor itself could sit flush against the connector then taped it in place so that it could not budge or come loose at all. Simple and takes just a few minutes. If you are not replacing the headers you will either need to remove the O2 sensors and replace the holes with bungs or find a way to safely tie the O2 sensor leads up so that they do not drag or get burned by the exhaust. Simple 5 minute mod and only costs you a single dollar to do it.

I highly suggest you disable the PAIR system next if you do not find the O2 elimination does quite what you want. It is cheap and easy to do as well.

Should I NOT try the O2 eliminator mod if I currently have no intention of adding a PC?

You most certainly should give the mod a try. It is 100% reversible back to stock and it only costs you $1. You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving it a shot.

I opted to run a chip for 60 bucks that uses the 02 sensors, did the airbox mod, took off all the emissions stuff and removed the pair valves.
could not be happier with the results. much cheaper then the powercomander.

Same installation method here with a little heat shrink wrap I had laying around. Some have reported success with the o2 elim only but most have combined it with a PC. It's cheap and easy to remove as well . . .

What do you mean when you mention "you will either need to remove the O2 sensors and replace the holes with bungs or find a way to safely tie the O2 sensor leads up so that they do not drag or get burned by the exhaust."

This sounds like an additional step beyond installing two 330 Ohm 1/4 W resistors from Radio Shack into black and neutral colored plugs. I thought the black and neutral 4P leads that get the 330 Ohms doodads WERE the O2 sensors. What is is that may require a bung or a tie to prevent from being burned?

The oxygen sensors have leads on them that plug into the wiring harness. Once you disconnect them from the wiring harness, you can't just let them dangle. The oxygen sensors themselves are still attached to the headers so you have to do something. There is nothing wrong with leaving them in so long as you tape em up, zip tie them, or otherwise do something so that the leads coming off the oxygen sensors aren't just hanging, dragging on the road, or melting the wires by touching the headers.
