I have an 07 vfr with leo vince slip on mufflers and just installed a power commander 3 with o2 eliminators and loaded map for this set up, question is i have a fair amount of popping on deceleration without baffles and no popping at all with the baffles installed ?

the mixture needs to be richened up on the off and small throttle opening settings. the popping is an indicator of a lean condition. the more open the exhaust is (aka, less backpressure) the richer the mixture is going to need to be. I will not get into the long explanation as to why this is. What I will say is that you will get the best power from the lowest back pressure and the correct stoichiometric ratio. you need to be able to have an ega hooked to the bike, in conjunction with a way to correlate engine rpm with the ega reading, to get the mixture (stoichiometric ratio) correct. this is done by dyno tuning.

Please do not listen to anybody who says that these engines "need" backpressure.

so the map I down loaded was probably with baffles in ? and with no popping with baffles in and bike running very well I can assume fuel mixture is ok and all is good ? I do like the sound more without baffles but at this time not sure I want to spend another 300.00 for a dyno tune.

Yes you can assume that the map is for baffles in and that everything is ok.the thing with PC maps is this: not all bikes are exactly the same and not all bikes are operated under identical atmospheirc conditions. there is no "perfect map" for all bikes. in a perfect world all bikes would have their own personal map, done by a qualified technician. You could try a couple of the other maps on the dynojet site and see if one of them is close enough to allow you to run sans baffles. you aren't getting the full benefit of the exhaust with the baffles in, however, your gas mileage will suffer when it is mapped correctly for baffles out. If you don't want to spend the additional dough, just keep trying all the free maps that you can find until you get what you want.
