87 vfr700 shock replacement

hi there, ok this was pain inn the ass job , but this is what i did , make the long story short, i cut the cross pipe
from the left to right and got the new shock in no problem , question is this gonna effect performance, ofcourse
i capped d the end , so no exhaust leak , welded it al up , i started it up sound good ,the bike doennt have plates on it so i just went aroun d the block not bad , i dont anyone done this beforre , if some one has sure like hear some input ........hear from you guys soon

what did you cut up? the exhaust? why?
