New to the VFR forums. Belong to a few others. My uncle recommended i come in and take a look around. He is a VFR owner his self. The board is cool, Its nice and user friendly.

A little history on my bike ownership:

A friend gave me a 1980 cmt400, stripped and rebuilt, ran like a charm after some carb work and a few other misc mechanical touches, but had to sell it due to legal problems. I posted some pics of that bike below, before and afters. The lady i sold it to used it as a learner. Drove it for a month and dropped 11k on a harley. She wrecked it a week after she bought it. I ran into her not to long ago, she said it still ran like a dream.

I'm looking at riding again, its been quite some time. I found a 1990 vfr750 sitting amongst a pile of stuff at a local swap meet place.. Its been wrecked and needs ALOT of work. I don't mind wrenching on it but like most people, i'm on a tight budget. Not so tight that i don't want to do it right tho. I'll post some pics of it as well, once i've got them, i would appreciate some advice.

Welcome to VFR World. In my humble opinion you can't go wrong with any VFR, even if you have to rebuild it.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

I feel confident about the VFR. A little less familiar with the VFR than the CMT BUT, i'm looking forward to a rebuild.. Just trying to make sure i don't get burned on this deal.

From what i've understood, the bike was in GREAT running condition when it was parked. He laid it down and it rolled over a few times. All the plastics are pretty much gone and whats left is wasted so its naked pretty much. He's asking $450 for it, only 15k miles. I'll be going back by there today to get some pics and i'll post them as soon as i can. I like a challenge but don't see spending mother loads of money on a bike if it has engine problems, especially at its asking price.. It has a clean title, the wreck was never turned into insurance.

The pics of the bike.. 15k miles, engine runs good. Sits for almost a year and here we go.. Just want to make sure its going to be worth messing with.. $450 is the asking price, he won't take any less. He doesn't have any parts, so i'll be shopping as soon as its my possession.

    First question...

By looking, what is it going to take to get get this thing started??

I was checking out some schematics on bike bandit, i don't see any computer equipment on the bike itself. I'm used to rebuilding old school bikes so this is new to me.. Is a computer on the bike and what is it controlling? Spark? Fuel? Air??

I'd love to stick a key in and see what kind of shape the engine is in before i start throwing money at the rest of it...

I can see already that the radiator has been disconnected and the spark plugs removed. Those are the obvious. What else am i missing that i'll need??

First question i need answered.. What are the bare min i need to start this bird??

    Does it have a computer?

    Spark control?

    Voltage relay?

I've rebuilt alot of old school bikes and need a starting point..

I'm already being told by a junker not to purchase and now i'm starting to have second thoughts.
