Anyone get rid of a wee strom (Vstrom 650) to get a 6th gen VFR and wish they hadn't? Is there anything that you miss about your wee strom? Are you second-guessing your switch?

There's an 07 Red VFR for sale (about 2 hours away) that seems to be calling my name AND there's guy in my building interested in my bike.

    Decisions, decisions....

My brother went the other way (VFR to V-Strom 1000). He got too, ahem, should I say big, and his knees were shot and he just couldn't ride it comfortably any longer. He loves his upright V-Strom, but always complains how ugly it is. I tell him it's not that ugly, but of course I'm lying. He even put some highway pegs on it! Hmmmmm.

Yup, just did that. Sold my 04 Wee that I put 65,000km on for an 08 VFR (dealer demo with 3k). Definately NOT second guessing the decision - love the power, the riding position etc. Depending on your background, the only negative might be the riding postion - as others have mentioned the wee/V is much more "upright" and most find it more comforable on long rides. For me though, the VFR position feels more "sporty", the way a motorcycle should; you are more in-tune with the ride.
If you do lots of 2-up, the wee had a better rack system, could carry more weight etc.

I had a 2005 650 Vstrom. No comparison. The VFR all the way, all day, all night.

interesting comments, Iv been seriously considering moving to a shestrom.more of my rides these days seem to end up on gravel Rd's. vfr is not that great on dirt Rd's. I'm assuming wee does better.
having an ugly bike has its advantages when it comes to flying under the radar.better chance cops will feel sorry for you and let you go with a warning. love the riding positon of the vfr.
is this a mistake that ill regret?

I can honestly say that the 650 Vstrom was a fun bike to ride in the city. Very flickable, just under-powered. I hear the 1000cc version's a beastie. It sits the same, just a tad more weight and an extra exhaust pipe. The fuel delivery system was flawless on mine, and a very comfortable mount. I was getting 55mpg or better on mine. The stock tread is deep and did a fair job on the dirt and gravel. For serious days' riding in the dirt they recommend letting out some air in the tires. The bike is for taller riders though, as it sits pretty high, but it is all day comfy on the stock seat. If you choose to go that route you will be happy, but I hear a comparison to the Kawasaki Versys is pretty close, and they also rant and rave about that bike as well. I sat on one and frankly I like the Vstrom better. Also to consider is this: The Vstrom has a center stand option, The Versys does not. Now my brother has a R1200GS and he loves it. We're talking twice the price stock though. His Beemer is fully loaded with the ESA and traction control, heated everything, tire pressure sensors (TPS), and all three cases. I believe he paid $21k. There is also the Suzuki Gladius. I sat on one of those and consider it a more cofortable mount than the Versys. It is the replacement for the SV650, using the same engine with a different tuning for low end grunt. The Gladius has the center stand option I do believe. All three bikes can host hard side cases. I believe of the three that the Vstrom has the larger fuel tank.

Hello, I am a new member just starting to browse through this site. I have the same login at stromtrooper.com where I get to learn all kinds of useful things for my 2008 DL650A (ABS Wee). I will be picking up my new 2008 VFR800A in a week, and look forward to finding out the differences myself. At present my Wee is just shy of 14K miles and it is almost everything I want in a bike. It is fully farkled for adventure touring - electronic cruise and all. But, the Wee feels sadly underpowered at times. I have convinced my wife that there are many good reasons to have more than one bike, and I can't think of anything better then a Wee and VFR. My suggestion is to keep the Wee and add the VFR :)

Well not exactly a WEE-STROM but an actual SV650S!!! Very nice bike! Had lots of fun on that 650 but just didn't fit me for my kinda riding. Was looking for a commuter but didn't want to spend more than 10K and that's were the '07 Interceptor RWB came into play. Very nice track bike or just a back road burner!

I was looking at doing the same thing and asked the same question. Now that I have my VFR I know the answer: they are two different bikes with different strengths and the choice depends on what you prefer. The wee was comfy and easy to ride, easy to maintain. The VFR is fast, challenging and the riding position more aggesive. I miss my wee for the convenience and relaxed riding style it offered, but I love the VFR for the challenge it presents and how it feels when I ride it. I don't get to ride that often, so the VFR makes every ride special. If I needed a commuter, I'd pick the wee.
