The 5th gen only uses 2-3 of them along the bottom where the left and right side fairings meet. They were of a design similar to a phillips head screw. A 1/4 turn or so would make them pop open and then one would have to pull them out by hand. That was the destructive part. They would not pull out. Or once they did pull out they would not pop back in.
So I just removed them all together after they broke. The front center piece is held in by actual screws.

Well since no one did it, I guess I should......Poped your bikes cherry did, ya? dont worry about the wallet bleeding, is only natural that somethings break. If you did her right she will treat you just right.

I broke one learning, and had one that i broke on purpose (they are poorly made and could have use a screw in this loaction instead) they are expensive, honda charges my dealer 3.00 each for them and i pay 3.25 ea so its not bad, just a pain since in only four holes are they really needed due to space for tools.

And to think we're only talking Viffers here. Honda uses so many different kinds of trim clips as to be ridiculous. Seems like they design a new one for every bike. And if they don't, they change the existing one just a little so a new part number can be added. You could use the type of clip that hold the fairing pockets in GL1800's. They're better quality, easier to use, and like the clip in question, they're flush when engaged. Of course then you have to figure out how they work...ask the parts guy to demonstrate.
