I bought a 87 VFR700 recently to restore, it has only 5K miles and runs and sounds brand new. I rode it 60 miles home with the dry rotted original tires and a chain that was never oiled even one time holding my breath, cruised 70+ mph to stay with traffic so cops wouldn't notice the expired tag. It sat in storage most of it's life, it was left out the last few years (paint & seat bad) and driven some after carbs were cleaned. It was knocked over on the rt side and cracked the lower fairing. Under the bodywork and 23 years of dust was a unmolested brand new VFR after lots of cleaning and detailing. Only rust was the side stand foot. Looking in the oil fill cap with a light it's spotless, like the day it was delivered. Just have forks to rebuild and front tire to install, brake pad upgrade and I can start on painting (red/white/blue)

At SLO I ran into V4hor on blue 87 and he had a brand new right side lower on his bike, asked him where he got it and he said from the dealer. Was blown away but maybe you can still get a new one.Worth asking.

    I'm confused

Yeah..... uh huh. Didn't the title of this thread say something about restoring something? I'm pretty sure you just bought a brand new bike.

In case you didn't notice or haven't seen the original pics of my bike......... I'm jealous.

I know it's a real diamond in the ruff, minor work compared to some of my previous bike/auto real restorations. I'll check yours out, I just have figure out getting around this forum. I think the guy thought the trans was shot when I test rode it the chain had 4 inches of slack... dry and kinked (never once oiled the countershaft area was spotless and same with rear spocket) I had to tighten the chain to ride it home but it was amazingly quiet after adjusted.

I can't leave it Blue, I allways wanted a RWB 86/87. When I found this I was looking for a 02 to redo as a 07 RWB. I think the layers of AZ dust protected everything all nuts and bolts even shine as new. I bargained it down to a grand, I was calling from 7 am till he picked up the phone at 8:30.

Yeah, a RWB would be cool...but how many of the candy wave blue ones do you see anymore? Especially in the shape that this beauty is in! Save yourself the money and the hassle of repainting the whole thing and leave it. Just an opinion...

Yours looks nice and that color is rare but I have to have the RWB. Ya know you should remove that damn centerstand....and send it to me:biggrin:
I allmost bought a 90 VFR but I got a 90 CBR1000F for 6K OTD in the crate. I bought a new NX650 at the same time and didn't have the extra cash for a VFR.:frown:captb

I should probably clarify this TC. While I did get the lower at the dealership (as well as tail section and side cover) it was back in late '99 or early 2000. Hopefully they still stock this stuff 'cause I'd like to get a new upper cowl when MY economy picks up.

Nice ride, captb. Hate to see a blue one go but you gotta do what you gotta do.

I've noticed in some pics that RWB 2nd gens have different colored engine cases and different gauges. Is this all RWB's or just 750's or is just my hallucination...er imagination. If someone could clue me in I'd be most appreciative.

capt, any chance we can do some trading or some trading plus cash for your tank? I'd really like to save an original paint job if possible. I'm being for real this time.

Plus I would gladly buy a VFRChuck peice for every factory one you have in trade as well.

not to hijack this thread, (even though it seems like it has been dead for some time) but just how rare are these blue ones? i just picked up a blue 87 that had a rough 18,000 miles on it. it was laid down and the lower cowls are gone. but i only gave 800 for it.

You will definitely see more white ones in the 87. I wouldn't say the blue was rare, but they had to make less of them.

Nice looking ride...IMO it would be a real shame to change that bike to the RWB scheme.

i plan to keep this bike with the factory look, but that highly depends on how hard these body parts are to find, everything on it is on fair-good shape...problem is no cowls are on it....ill have to see what i can work up
