    Hey Guys

I just purchased a 97 VFR 750f witch still has the stock muffler on it. I was looking for a real cheap replacement for the Stock pipe and came across this JC Whitney pipe. It's a 12" Shorty Muffler and it fits over 1-1/2" OD and 1-3/4" OD.... Here is the Link below.

CHROME PLATED REPLACEMENT MUFFLERS - JCWhitney

Wanted to know if this pipe would fit on my bike. Read the reviews and people are saying its loud and thats what im really going for.

    Thanks
    Mize

I tried them on my VF1000R. I TIG welded a short section of 1.5 inch tube to the end of the 1-3/8 tube (fits right over) and
put the shorties on. IT sounded good at idle but I did not get to run it long enough to get a full test of the sound level. I had a feeling they would be just a little too loud at full rpm.

BUT the tapered 16inch slip on would probably be perfect. JP Cycles sells 3 or 4 different designs and they have a low cost 16 inch that would be perfect. $29 each

Also I got a set of used H-D 16 inch tapered slip on from Ebay and have bolted those on. You need the muffler"bearing" spacer thing to make it work and a good set of clamps which you can get from JP cycles.
I used two T bolt aircraft style clamps on each muffler, but if you have just a little more money you can get a real nice clamp from JP cycles that looks killer.
The GOOD clamps with allen bolt are $29.00

Thanks for your reply Donald. I really wanna go for a loud sound...I also checked JP cycles but they didnt have my bike up there. So i can get away with the 12" shorty? Just weld a 1.5" on the 1-3/8" tube ?? How loud was too loud for you ???

Yes you could use the 12 inch shorty. I might even go back to those.

The 1.5 inch exhaust tubing is a slip fit over the 1-3/8 there is some variation in brands.

You could just slip it over 1-2 inches and use a couple pop rivits. Or you could use some self drilling-self tapping screws.

With JP Cycles just type in the word shorty onto the SEARCH box.
All of the universal fit parts is under the HD section.

    WANT loud?? Join a band!!

It's a typical poser move 4 sure, but that's what Hollywood is all about, eh ??

Too many loud-ass H-Ds and others out there already, and it will hurt the sweet running nature of your bike. And your ears.

USE search function to look for muffler mods. You could drill a few 1/4" holes around the end of the pipe, but i didn't tell u that cuz i prefer stock exhaust on gen 4s.

I am a musician and the worst thing is a band that is too loud and abusive to the audience.
I motorcycle can be loud enough to be heard but not so loud that it bothers people.

But you know some people want it quiet as a library - all the time everywhere and that is not fair either.

There are a few threads about cutting the muffler. Search for them. I cut about 8" off my muffler and it made a difference. It is much louder than stock but still very reasonable. It also shows off the sssw much better.

The VFR used to be regarded as "the gentleman's sportbike" but not with crude, hacked up mufflers.....

The RIGHT approach is to purchase a bee-u-ti-full-sounding D&D or 2 Bros can or any of 4-5 other QUALITY cans.

JC Whitney??? Do you live in a trailer park, Earl ??

But how much did it cost?

Did you have to work all year to pay for it?

Well, between the new muffler bearings and having to drain and refill my turn signal oil, it was a pretty penny. But you get what you pay for and I'm pretty happy.

My bike has been lowered, painted matte black (with matte clear coat for protection), and now has a crude, hacked up muffler. It will never be confused with a gentleman's sportbike! And I'm pretty happy about that, too.

I just want a louder pipe. The stock is really quite and me doing a lot of city street riding, I want people who don't pay attention in cars to at least hear me coming. L.A. drives are the worst !! Being from NYC i can say that. I don't want it to be " Setting off parked car's alarm loud ", But i want it to be louder. Thanks for the feedback guys.
