    Hi havcar,

The "seller" of the 02 VFR will not sell for less then $5,900. He'll just assume keep the bike himself...or so he says. I mentioned to him his price is not in line with reality, but he is stuck on the fact of the modifications, new tires and a recent FULL SERVICE. I didn't have the heart to tell him, maintenance costs of a used bike do not get added to book value.

Wouldn't that be nice. Buy a bike for $10,000 spend $20,000 in maintenance and upgrades and sell it for $30,000 8 years from now. The guy is not a true biker and is either honestly naive, or trying to BS someone that won't check pricing. I just wanted to ride it as it was 2 miles from my house. Price negotiation was next, assuming I liked it, as I really did like it... beautiful bike !!.

So I just let this bike/guy go... There are others and I'm focusing in on the VFR, Thanks to all your help....

    Later,

    Doug C.

Hey Doug. Not to get off topic here - but I grew up in Sparta, NJ (way up Glen Road, on the way to Jefferson). Spent 19 years there. Currently residing in Budd Lake.

Those prices at Cherry Hill are highly "competitive". I have a few clients down there, and its about 90 miles from my house. Figure another 20 give or take from your area.

FYI a 6th gen VFR makes a GREAT addition to the VTX 1300 ;) 'Specially for us NJ folks! PS I LOVE that rear fender.

You should join MAXR - Mid Atlantic X Riders - Home if you haven't already - we just went out for a ride yesterday. Great group of people, all riding VTX's ;)

    This was from yesterday's ride:

    Okay, back on topic:

I paid $2750 for my 2003 VFR with 18k miles on it. It needed a bit of work (tires, chain, sprockets, fluids) but even so, I think that is unusually cheap. Like others have said, that price for a 2002 is way out of line. I'd be shooting for $3k-ish, or looking for a new leftover, which it seems you're doing.

From riding the VTX all the time, I can't say that the VFR is "very comfortable" for my personally but it is sure as shit more comfortable than a full-on "race style" sport bike. I can ride the VFR all day with little problem, though I will complain about some sore spots once I'm finished. I have no comfort problems on the VTX.

All in all, the VFR is a fantastic addition to the VTX. Plus, VFRW's own poconovfr puts together some awesome VFR rides through PA that you need to experience! ;)

That's funny..in a perfect world I guess. The thing is that Honda has temporarely killed re-sale on 6 gens. Once the blow out bikes are sold out then re-sale should hopefully get back up to where it should be. Unfortunately for your friend with the '02, he is asking and expecting way too much, even if the factory to dealer thing wasn't in play right now. I've put over $3000 in mods on my bike, not including general maintenence, knowing that I'll never get it back out. That's why I keep all the stock bits. Then when I go to sell and someone tells me the mods aren't worth anything to them I can reply with; OK that's fine, give me a day to put all the stock pieces back on and I'll sell it to you for the book price.

    Thanks Pliskin,

Hopefully the Cherry Hill location will have them for a few days as I'm a bit swamped with work. I'll be calling and seeing if I can arrange/negotiate a "fair" price over the phone and just go there with CASH IN HAND and drive it away !!

If they sell before I get there, at least I'm glad I've narrowed my choice of a " High Performance Cruiser / Crotch Rocket Blend " to the Honda VFR Gen 6. Now it's just a matter of getting the right one at the right price.

    Later buddy,

    Thanks for the info elwray,

Off topic...Nice car you have there as well... I just picked up the 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe, V6 MT. rear wheel drive car... P255 rears and P225 fronts, nice stance!! I added an AEM cold Air intake and had the PCU flashed to max performance. Took the HP from stock of 306 to 350. Car is insane at under $29k after the upgraded mods. Car also has all leather, Navigation, Bluetooth and 10 speaker 330 watt Infinity sound...!! Subaru (I believe that's what is in the background of your pics...) makes great performance cars as well and allows for some nice mods... I remember a Subaru smoking my old 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse Turbo. I mean he SMOKED me like I was standing still !!

Back on motorcycle topic, Thanks for the reference to rider clubs and detail on your "used" VFR purchase. The maintenance you did, IMHO, is minor / standard stuff...but the price you paid is GREAT... It gives me a good bench mark if I lose out on the new 2007 left overs.

Yes its a 2009 WRX... intake/exhaust stage 1 retune. You'd probably best me in the Genesis..... unless we were racing in the snow

Yes the VFR maintenance that mine required was nothing out of the ordinary, and in fact probably helped get the price so low. It was fun (and frustrating at times!) learning to work on a new machine. Good luck with the search! Keep us posted! :smokin:

    I got an Interceptor !!!

No thanks to Cycle World in Chery Hill, NJ. The most unprofessional and dimwitted Sales Manager I have ever dealt with. And that's saying something as I have dealt with many. The sales guy, very young guy, was nice, but worked for an idiot, so his hands were tied. Bottom line is I/we could not close the deal. I went their with a certified check made out to them so they knew I was serious. Not at their price but a respectable offer that allows for some wiggle room. I NEVER in my life have not closed a deal on a car or motorcycle when you are only $150 apart. I mean, lets figure it out guys.... Nope, take it or leave it... oh and then when I come back... yep I went back to the table a week later...sorry dude, we raised the price... So I suck it up and offer more cause I want the bike. Nope no can do pay an extra $600 ($7,595) or pound sand. Never again with Cycle World in Cherry Hill in NJ. They claim to be a "high volume" dealer so "customer service" and "respectable business negotiations" are not their thing. I advise anyone to stay clear of this place.

So as I seem to be a pretty fortunate guy these days, I walk into another shop right in my neck of the woods and on the floor are two new/used ones. I wanted Red, and Red they had. Made a fair offer. They initially declined. It's the hight of the bike season, but that does not mean I'll pay a premium for that privilege. I can wait... So these guys call me back a few hours later with a slight modification to my offer, that was totally reasonable and I got it.

Basically, mint condition 2005 VFR with 4,200 miles on it. One owner bike as I have all the documentation. Bike was stored for over a year and again, I have all the paperwork and it all matches up. Bike was professionally maintained and runs like a charm. Oh and did I mention the extended warranty on the bike.... Good till July 2011. Friggin better than buying new. I get this season and part of next with "peace of mind" on anything major happening.

I put over 500 miles on it in 2 days and it's just an incredible machine. I'm so impressed with it...

I want a little More sound though so I need to look into an exhaust. The 202 with 14,000 miles on it that the guy wanted more then I paid for a 2005 with 4,000 miles and an extended warranty had a BLUE FLAME exhaust. I forget the sound.

Any suggestions on a decent sounding, nice looking and relatively affordable exhaust would be appreciated...

    Later,

    Doug

Thanks so much... This is a great board... Good people... Know their shit...

Initially helped me not over pay for a 2002.... Helped educate me on how and why the VFR is such an "exceptional" motorcycle... Now you answer me in a minute flat with exactly what I need to learn/know...

    Thanks...

Not the best angle, but you can get an idea. The gold silencer tips can be easily removed (5 min) for even more sound and easier exhausting. I'll get one from the side for you tomorrow. The mid- pipe looks oh so cool after break-in. It turns kind of a polished gold hue. You can kind of see it toward the front of the rear tire.

    Good Morning havcar,

Thanks for the info and picture. Very nice...

If this exhaust is put on, does it require a tune? I mean if the airflow out is changing, typically a tune would be involved. I notice that your "Bike statistics" list '08 vfr 800 w/2 bros m2 titanium,k&n,pcIII w/cust. dynoed mapping,-1f gearing. What does the pcIII w/curt, dyno mapping and 1f gearing mean?

One thing I have noticed on this bike is first gear is real low. I mean shit, you can go almost 60 mph in 1 st gear. IMHO, It's too long... Starting off the line, QUICKLY, is hard...Don't get me wrong, once your moving your flying but does the 1f gearing have anything to do with modifying the gear ratio??

Again, your valuable input is greatly appreciated.

    Doug

Congrats on your new toy, I am glad it worked out ok for you!! I've heard almost every brand exhaust on the Viffer and I highly recommend Staintune. Keep in mind that you also have the option of doing a full gut on your stock exhaust to give it a mean throaty sound. I did a full gut on my last exhaust and it only took a few hours of work but unfortunately it was stolen before I could put it on my bike. There are several threads on this board on how to do the mod if you are interested. I think it sounds just as good if not better than aftermarket.

After gutting the exhaust I took it to a fellow VFRW member's house to have him weld the end caps back on and it was "allegedly" stolen from his garage along with a bike stand and my old 3rd Gen parts bike that he was helping me take apart. Coincidentally he was supposed to be buying the swingarm and 8 spoke rear wheel from me. Oh did I mention that the garage that he left my bike in was at his old house that he had moved out of a week prior? Had I known that the bike was going to be left at a vacant house for a week I would have made the hour drive and picked it up the same day.

I guess chalk it up to "shit happens".... Hey, if this guy or whoever can live with a clear mind after stealing other peoples hard earned stuff, then it's their loss - How can you look in the mirror knowing you're a schemeing fuc*&cking theif?? So who is really the loser here?? Just a little "wisdom" that helps me deal with the bullshit that happens in this world...

Off to see my parents... they are getting old so it's great to spend some time with them. Motorcycles are fun, but family is everything...
