Anytime man, can't believe you've been operating this long without out. I know in BaseCamp it will convert any track to a route in one click, I would think that MapSource can do it as well. Just so you know you can get BaseCamp for Windows too, it's a decent application. I also have this pgm for the mac that will mess with any route track. It can remove/add viapoints/waypoints etc and all kinds of other stuff.

Ok to a few Chomper points as well..

The 60 can not convert tracks to routes....the only units that can are the Zumos. However most 60 guys prefer their units for off road anyway as you can show anybodys tracks and you just visually follow them on the bike....not a problem with slow speed dirt work reallly. Also tracks do not recalculate ...they are what they are. I just work around the Zumos off road issues ......kinda like my off roading skills............................

Maospource can NOT convert tracks to route to a route. THe New version of PC Basecamp can as of a couple of days ago...version 3.01. There is also a filted track conversion in the PC Basecamp which should reduce the number of via points too.

For a street track conversion work around in Mapsource, I would just look at your tracks and place a few via points down at keypoints plusthe start and stop points along your trracks and then using auto routing do a route. In fact that is the way I would do it as it works well unless you are off road/no roads on maps and auto rourting does not work. When you use basecamp to conv If it does not fit/overlay just use the rubber band technique to conform the route to your tracks. I don't want to put you guys over the edge but there are shareware programs out there tooooooooo which do other things including track/route conversions. I have used most of them. Sorry but Street & Trips from Microsoft just came out with a new version which can also send routes to a GPS.

I would practice with Basecamp and Mapsource. Everybody whines at first with Mapsource especially but once you get used to it ....it is pretty handy.

Another thing with conversions if you do a conversion from a track ...the file name maybe still called a track when really it is a route. Purple is a route!

You can use the Route Properties in mapsource to delete viapoints as well. You will not need as many with the "shaping points". Frankly when I make a street route I start with start and stop and a few known towns I want to go thru. Then I just use the Rubber band to get the roads I really want.

You’ve given me lots of info, at least now I know mapsource wont convert tracks. problem with some of my tracks is it’s a looped ride that goes all over the place with many different rds that keep crossing over same rds you cant just pic a destination and then drag it to a few different rds . Whats been working for me is to magnify to 1/2 mile or greater and trace over track, it’s a painfully slow process but it works, any larger than that and auto routing makes to many mistakes. I dint even know about base camp before reading this thread thanks guys for getting me on the right track LOL
60 has an option on track back to either follow track, like you said that only works for slow speed stuff, other option is to pan to specific point and allow auto routing to take you there. If your zumos will convert to rout on exact tracks thats an awesome feature that I could use.

Okay, I learned today that when a custom made track is sent to the GPS it stays as a track and resides in the Trip Log folder. Once it is Imported though the Zumo turns it into a route and creates a whole bunch of special shaping points that are invisible and do not get announced to keep it on the desired path, quite ingenious really. More importantly the built in simulator can not navigate via those special shaping points so that is what was confusing me from the very beginning because I thought it wasn't a route. So... my very first track would have worked very well, without issue in the first place, it just can't be simulated. That makes me quite happy and impressed.

after farting around with base camp i still dont see how to convert tracks to routs unless you do it manually like in map source. also realizing there has to be a way to reduce the point track log as well,i can only store 1000 way points.
is there a users manual for base camp? after many frustrating searches i couldn't come up with one.

Right click on the track in your left pain and select "Create Route from Selected Track". I just did it on my Windows machine. Creating a "Filtered" route is underneath that one.

Edit: Couldn't find a manual either but the help files are actually pretty informative I have found.

Right click as Jason said and make sure you have version 3.01 ....the conversion feature was not available till then (only a few days ago) ....was on the Mac Version though.

Here is a track conversion which I sent route back to Mapsource. You are right this would have taken a while to map out....conversion made it a snap.

Mapsource can filter tracks down to whatever you want.

Thanks guys, if i rode my bike like i use computer id crash before i got it off center stand LOL
yes it works great, how did you send it back to map source?
heres a the rout i converted with out filtering tracks it had over 2200 waypoints to begin with.the only way it would pick up most of the rds i wanted was to have a min of 300 waypoints thats what the picture is showing. 60cx only allows me 50 points for follow road navigation.
not sure if theres a way around this unless i split rout up.

Chomper, it looks as though that whole route is on paved roads that the NT maps can route for you. MapSource for windows can make shaping points when you drag a route that don't get announced nor take up you maximum waypoint allotment. It also looks like you have avoided the major highways in typical chomper like fashion . Have you tried to just make a normal route using the route tool? Did you click the filter route option in BaseCamp? or maybe save the route and open it up with MapSource and filter it there.

BonusVFR should be able to help knocking that route down as I have never tried that in Windows. I'm willing to try if ya wanna send me that route.

For fun I managed to install the trial of the new Garmin Birdseye Imagery. It's not compatible with the Zumo's but figured I would try it out. It only works in BaseCamp and functions as an overlay that can be selected on and off with any map that you have installed including Topo's. I wish I could get it to the Zumo but it didn't work. It takes up quite a bit of HD space, especially if you wanted your entire area covered.

    that birds eye looks good.

ill send you rout take a close look at it magnify and follow rout. then you will understand there is no real destination that rout tool would ever understand, with out many way points stuck in. i would guess there is around 100differnt alternative rds that follow other rds if that makes sense. 290mile rout that could be done in less than 120miles its all about the secondary twisty rds that make this ride so good. how many points can zumo use for following rd navigation? after looking at some of my other saved routs i have, i realized they are all around 20 to 50 way points so i never had an issue. also most routs are split up by day and somtimes by half day or more. i thought 60 had capability of 1000waypoints apparently not while following rd navigation, I guess.

Here's a pic of the route I sent you back with a couple of drag corrections. It looks really good. It only has 50 WP's but my dragging added some via points.

As you can see here some of the tracking seems to be a bit off, no big deal though as the route has put you back on actual roads... unless you were actually driving on the medians and stuff?

I have no idea what the max number of WP's is for a Zumo route, maybe BonusVFR knows. All I know is when I uploaded your original to my Zumo it out it into a start reboot, start reboot, start reboot cycle until I manually went in and deleted the Current and Temp GPX files :scared: :mmph:

Just a quick note about via points..........you can get route if the point is not placed well..................however you can end up with these scenarios.

Best to blow up the screeen and really look at what happens with the route.............or use shaping points which by definition are in the right place ...an intersection.

SHaping point properties in the ViaPoint Properties Dialog box.

thanks Js for that, i did reduce it from 2200wapoint to 300 then 50. at 50 complete rds are missed if you magnify rout to max and follow it you can see all the mistakes there are many to the point of destroying rout not into riding on interstates.
Bonus vfr these shaping points sound like the right idea have to experiment with those, thanks learned allot from you guys

Here is your original Active log (Red) chomper, the Route (Blue) is underneath and those are points that your seeing. You would see blue if there was a difference. Even when I zoom in they are 99% the same for the exception of a few spots where your track has gone off the road.

    I wrote this up above.

I have sent a route to the Zumo with over 3000 via points though so there must be something different going on.
