ok so i looked at that hugger and that is way high, I had found one a few months back for under 250. though that one sounds to be made very well i would shop around before dropping $420 on it

I can honestly say this is the first time I've seen someone take a picture of an unopened box. Thanks for the the detailed description of the install!

Dare I ask how much the WP shock costs? I am looking to replace the rear shock on my 95 VFR.

    Thanks,

    Mick

On hugger note, ya thought the same thing I'm still looking around.still a nifty item.

    Thanks Jamie couldn't help myself.

WP shock wasn't all that bad, other than the allmost 3 month wait was worth it. Oh it'll Cost ya $645.00 I went through LE Enginering http://www.le-suspension.com/ from what I found they seem to be the only folks that can get WP shocks via the US KTM distributor. Talk to Jim there, cool dude.

couple things to keep in mind

    1) the one in the link is the combo hugger and chain guard, not just the hugger. I gotta think making them as one unit really ups the difficulty of construction, as that is a very complex shape with multiple coumpound courves. But I also think it will look sweeter when it comes in, than having two seperate pieces.

    2) I didn't see where you were from, but that is in AUS $$, not US $$ (about $356 in US dollars as I write this)

    3) the cheapest isn't always the best.

Nice shock!!! I'm considering getting a HyperPro Rear Shock this summer. Would it be possible to get a few more detailed pics of the way you mounted the remote reservoir, as that seems to be the trickies part of the install. Really nice detailed pics BTW, it makes me feel a little better about attempting the switch, as we now have photos to help us along! Thanks!!!

Yes, the remote is a bit tricky. in fact I'm still putting the finishing touchs on making that location perfect, as it stands now it's like 96% right, just noticed after 400 miles I need to move it over like a couple more MMs. I'll see what I can do for photos of that. I ened up making a bracket out of a block of hard rubber to get it to fit there. I think it looks like it belongs there?

It does look tidy, one of the best mounting jobs that I've seen, that's why I'm asking for pics!!!! Hopefully this summer I can get my Hyperpro shock, and replicate your install w/o any major difficulties. Thanks again!!!

$356 US dollars is still high and hugger i had seen was like 250 and it was carbon fiber and they all come with chain guard combo b/c we dont have a separate area to mount the hugger like dual sided swingarms..........i removed my chain guard and i think it makes my bike look way cleaner....

do what you want, but they definately do not all come as a combo. GCC and Thurn, the two I mainly looked at, for instance, both make huggers, chain gaurds, and combo units.

Not all carbon fiber units are of the same quality either. Plus I wanted to get most of my bits from as few providers as possible, so it would match.

Here ya go as promiced Douglas. I went and took the mount I made off to trimm it up a bit, so it could fit even better, so while I was at it took some snaps for all to see

First , Bought some hard rubber square stock. Then cut and trimmed so it would fit both the remote and the location, you'll see a slot cut out of the block of rubber, thats for the remote line to be where it needs to be.....

    .....................Here.

Notice I pre drilled the hole into the frame then made sure the sheet metal screws would work by screwing them in first . BTW I used WD40 as a tap oil. Next was to cut out a section in the rear fender as to be able to get to the frame and also making that the same size as the rubber mount, this made it fit right to the frame while also holding the fender in place.

Here is the reservoir mounted in place. again take notice how I made it to fit right in tight with the cutout of the fender.

Here ya go with the remote in place, all nice and tidy

That last photo probably doesn't look a whole lot different than the ones before, but it is like another 4mm more to the outside for tire clearance issues. This came about after I put like 450+ miles on the original setup in were I noticed a bit of tire abrasion on the remote, nothing bad, but it did tell me it was to far inward, so a wee bit more nailing down the fitment was in order, Now things are all good to go. Hope that helps.

This particular piece of rubber stock I found at of all places a Machine shop. I was actully looking for some Nylon stock at first, they allowed me to sniff out the scraps and I came across this. let me know how your search goes, I do have enough left to make another one. maybe even two.
