Hey everyone! Im new to VFR's and I found this bad boy on Craigslist.

    1994 HONDA VFR 750

It is 94 with 23k and he wants $2500. The tach doesnt work and the hand brake doesnt set off the brake light. I dont see any leaks and it start right up when i went to see it. New tires, new fork seals, newer chain and sprockets. Replaced calipers to OEM Nissin calipers earlier this year because the aftermarket ones broke. New but crappy paint job. Seat isnt torn. What do you think?

    Dan

It sounds like those have been 23k hard miles. Offer $1500 and don't go higher than 2000.

The brake light is a switch issue most likely - do you mean that the front brake lever doesn't activate the brake lamp? It could be expensive, it could be cheap.

The whole "story" about the calipers makes me leery, though - I never knew or even thought that any aftermarket calipers were available for the 4G VFR...

The tachometer is electronic, and if it's not functioning you could be looking at replacement of the entire gauge cluster.

Has this bike been down? Is there any road rash on the hard parts, i.e. bar ends, pegs, frame, wheels, brake rotors, etc.?

crash damage is the usual #1 reason for a repaint, regardless of the guy's explanation.

    1994 HONDA VFR 750

Here it is. He jsut re listed it. No he said that it had been painted silver by the PO and then he painted it back. All the plastics look great and it doesnt look like it was downed. Ya I am pretty concerned about the gauge cluster and quite possibly having to replace the whole thing so the tach can work. Ill let my offer set for a while and see what he says. From what he has told me he listed it for $4500, then $3100 then now $2500. So i threw $1800 out there and he seemed insulted. Also he replaced the front rotors with brand new ones. I am pretty new to street bikes and i dont really know how long rotors are suppose to last. Any advice/ ammunition I can use will be greatly appreciated. I absolutely love the VFR model and i think the V4 is amazing and unique espically with gear driven cams. Neat. O ya i forgot to mention that the brake lever doesnt light up the brake light but the foot brake does.

    dman,

I've been watching the Phoenix, Prescott and Tucson Craigslist ads for almost a year now watching mostly VFRs, but other bikes as well. There are some really nice VFR's that come out all the time in the $2500 range. That bike sounds like it has issues, and whenever I hear "given it's age" I automaticaly think they are hiding something. Be patient and keep trolling the ads. The right bike will be there. And as stated, a VFR is a great choice! Good luck in your search and keep us posted!

Thanks for all the help fellas. So even if this one has issues and he comes down on the price should i jump on it? I havent had a chance to price out gauge clusters but that may not be the issue. It could be the sending unit or maybe a connection? The owner doenst know and said that it has been that way since he bought it from the PO. So hmm. I havent called him back and i will keep my eye out. I think i made up my mind on a VFR. I want something unique but not something extremely scary nor expensive to work on. I can do most motorcycle maintenance myself and I love doing that stuff. So ill keep lookin. Thanks again!
