Yeah not my finest moment, a few of the little f&@ers were giving me crap about it all winter. See if they get a ride this year...
One of the few mods I actually am going to get done this month is a pair of sliders.
Damn, 1k for liability?! Glad I'm an old fart now; guess they assume we can't twist the throttle all the way with our arthritic hands.
Cundalini, are you out in the garage sanding?? Gotta get one project done before you start the next one...

so here is what happened. I had to drive down the coast to make the car payment, th our credit union closed the branch in SB, so I made an afternoon of it. Ride down the coast , see the water , stop in have lunch with a few friends. This all went well, only had one hiccup with the bike. so I am returning home and I pull into the complex drive around the street to the back lot were I park and as I swing the bike left to drop into the place I park it I hit some gravel. The front end went out from under me and down we go. I rolled away (I think) and came up on my feet. picked her up and tried to start her back up but to no avail. ( I waited a few moments to let the oil settle back down) finally got a spark of life pulled her into the spot and ran off to go pick up the GF. I got back home and rode her to another appointment I had. other than the choke being broke. she sustained no mechanical damage only cosmetic....
I have no doubts even though i was going slow that IF I had not been wearing full leathers that (according to the skid marks (on the outside)) I would have had some blood loss and maybe a jacked up knee..ATGATT is proven sucessfull yet again.

Ok so here is my plan for the morning brothers.
Insurance guy is coming to take pics and document damage.
I know he is just some storm trooper working for an insurance agency....
But I am just some storm trooper at my job as well, but when someone asks me a straight question I give a straight answer. Whether or not they want to hear that answer.
If there is a way to feel out the situation and not get my bike totalled I will try , even if it means money out of pocket on my end. Just not more then I can afford.
If its going to get a salvage title, then so be it. But I will do my best to find an alternative.
    Cross fingers please.

Now wait. This might be a blessing in disguise. If they total it you should be able to buy it back for salvage cost. That is if the insurance co. doesn't have certain salvage companies or auctions they work with only.

For example They give you going rate for the bike like $3k or what ever it is. Then you turn around and buy the bike back for like $1k salvage cost. That gives you $2k to repair the bike yourself. Could be a win win situation. So what if the title then says salvage. You still have evidence of what little actually happened to show next owner, if you sell it later, that cost attributed to salvaged and not damage.

So you may want to find out how your insurance company deals with the totaled vehicles they get.

That was definatly food for thought.

My bike is considered at a total loss if the damaged reached 1600$ and is worth about 500$ to them if they total it. ( both of those numbers sound extremely low to me btw ).
Long story short is, they would offer me 2250$ for it, total it out and then sell it back to me for 1000$. After my deductible that wouldn't leave me enuff to put it back together to its original near flawless condition within a very resonable time frame.
The progressive insurance guy that came out said that he had never seen a 1990 that clean before and in his proffesional oppionion I would be a fool to total it.I dont know if thats is his standard sales pitch or whatever, but he was helpful and made me a decent offer, and I took it. I am pleased with the offer and I think it to be fair and will give more details later, but I got to scoot to work as I had to take an hour off to get this handled today.
TOE CUTTER is optomistic that I can have the bike repaired to her former glory with the check that they cut me, so I will have to ( once again ) ask him for some help. Will let you guys know the final outcome of course. right now off to work and to deposit the check into my savings acount and try to book an appointment with TOE CUTTER's friend for an estimate.
For whatever superstitious reason I dont want to make public the size of the check I have until I get the repair price estimated.
    Fingers crossed.

Now the hunt for the brake pedal begins, as I will be replacing that myself. I cant seem to figure out if the one I had was OEM or not, will start a differant thread.

@flyn insurance and the TOE CUTTER coming to the rescue on mine. I got a small sum of money from progressive and I think if I play my cards right it will come out ok with the help of johns VFR guy.

@spid there will be repair pics of my bike. Crusty said his repair probably wont happen as he is going to turn his bike into a streetfighter. I tried to talk him out of it... he sounded adament on the phone. He hates farings for some reason. Said they were ugly. Oh well. He will have to start a thread about the soon to be headlight conversion.

Gear definately saves ur bacon. Luckily every time I have hit the deck, I was wearing full leathers or a aerostich suit. Thats not to say I dont ride in jeans and a jacket sometimes but hey you gota hedge your bets right? I dont think I have ever seen a viffer with frame sliders. I have seen crashes where they actually destroyed the frame that they were bolted into. If I owned a bike like a gixxer or some super sport, me thinks I would spring for re-enforced cases from an aftermarket company not frame sliders. Cheers.
