I am about to repaint the tank as it had been painted all blue with no decals from the previous owner.
    Here come the questions

What is the "honda wing" size? Is 135 mm x 83 mm right?

Is there a close up photo of the original decal available?

I have found decal kits but not in black color so I will try to cut my own tank stripe. A graphics file of the stripe would be a great help if anyone has it and wants to share.

    Thanks for replying

I am interested mostly to find out what the originals look like and measure. I have seen the link you gave but I think at original decall the "HONDA" under the wing does not have the "O" and "D" black filled.
One more link is Honda 7821LC for a pair of "wings" but still the "O" and "D" are black filled.

I am also revamping my 500 and it is in need of a decal or both a decal and a paint job. If it stops raining tomorrow I'll go out and see if the O and the D are filled in on my wing decals but I'm pretty sure they are. About the tank stripe; I am worried about getting frisky with the paint damage I have on my tank, and I also cannot find a decal set containing one for the '84. Would a vinyl cutter be able to just eye ball this?

I might be asking for too much but if it is not too much trouble can you measure the dimensions of the decal?

Sure, not a problem. I'll make a full scale tracing with dimensions and post early next - if this will work.

Looks to me like the 86 came with the yellow wing

    Of the older models:

The mostly Blue versions came with the White and Red Wing decal IC has posted.
The mostly Red versions came with the White and Black Wing decal.

Guess what... not only I had produced a "tank stripe" vector graphics file long time ago but I already had a vinyl black stripe cut!!!
It was quite a pleasant surprise to find both of them
I attach the file, but you use it at your own risk as I cannot recall if it is accurate or not. Any feedback is welcome.

@ invisible cities , I already ordered a pair of "honda wing" decals but still it would be helpful to know the correct size.

Update: Unfortunately the stripe doesn't fit right, I hope I'll produce a correct one soon. I leave the file but it is a "reference only".

Here is a tracing - with a tape measure for scale reference.

This is a 1984 VF500F Honda Wing on a Candy Aleutian Blue w/ Fighting Red and Shasta White tank - as seen in the photo posted above.

    (the wing is tri-color)

Thanks for posting up that file!

I am going to try and get a good print of it to see if the size is correct for the tank stripe on my 84

post results when it stops raining

Today I received the decals (bought from ebayer).

Inconsistencies to the original, as far as I know, are:

    1. Size is 122mm x 88mm instead of 134 mm x 95 mm
    2. D and O are black filled
    3. Black outline of HONDA logo is very thick
    4. Wing and HONDA are bridged with black stripe.

I think I will go on with what I have as I might have already gone too far into details.

Tweaking the photo-tracing posted by invisible cities to get the vertical measurement I got a reading about 95mm, so I came to conclusion the dimensions the original logo measures are about 134mm X 95mm.
The ONE Pair of Complex 4 colour Honda Wings for the VF700F 1984 Model size 5.25 X 3.75 although stated for the VF700F seems to be very very close if not identical with original VF500 tank decal.

Glad to hear this is working out. I was wondering are the photos above in black and white - is the new decal the tri-color version (red, orange, white) for the Candy Aleutian Blue tank?

My photos are colored but the subjects are not

There is also the wing version of "Metallic Charcoal, Silver and White" which was what my VF originally had, so I wanted to match as closer to original. I don't really know what was in the US market.

I think 'officially' this decal is used on the Candy Alamoana Red with Black and Shasta White model. On a side note, I have not found a manufacturer that cuts a decal for the the Candy Aleutian Blue.

For reference here are the various paint schemes for the VF500F:

1984 - Candy Alamoana Red with Black and Shasta White
1984 - Candy Aleutian Blue with Fighting Red and Shasta White
1985 - Candy Alamoana Red with Candy Blue and Shasta White
1985 - Candy Aleutian Blue with Candy Red and Shasta White
1986 - Fighting Red with Shasta White and Candy Blue

I got one of those Yellow Honda Tank Decals off Ebay for my tank.

Got some gas on it by accident.....decal is ruined.

    Decal update:
Through discussion with decal professionals I came to conclusion the original decal must be a print over a transparent film. That put some demands of printing equipment as it must support printing of white "color", not an easy finding here.
The decal I bought and it is widely available, is a print on a white vinyl and that is the reason it is different than the original.

It also must be clear coat-able.

I didn't clear coat over mine and any gas drip on it ruins the decal instantly.
