    Doesn't work that way.

If it is a HONDA dealership they rebuild ANY Honda product.
Even if they do not know how.

But it is YOUR generation that will start the shops that specialize in a particular bike.
It is not a "we can do this kinda thing" It is a YOU WILL HAVE TO DO IT kinda deal.

    Know what I mean?

When I was 19 years old some guys started Honda 750 repair shops based on drag racing
bikes but rebuilt street bikes to pay the rent.

I am 60 now and just rebuilt most of my VF1000R.
But I do not want to do it as a business.

You could buy a better, solid, modern bike from CL for what a good rebuild would cost.

Economics 101. A solid first Gen can be had for $1200 - $1500. Shop time will kill you on this bike. An engine rebuild at shop rates makes absolutely no economic sense whatever. None. Do it yourself or forget it. I am sure that paying someone to fix these 1983-1985 VFs makes no economic sense.

BUT there are really experienced and generous folks here who will help. Really. tinkering, Jamie, mason45, and a host of others. I certainly am not a great mechanic, but folks here helped me with a head gasket replacement and a shock upgrade. Now I am doing a wheel upgrade and fixing my fork seal. Give it a try. It is fun . . . .

    Alaskan is right.
Do it yourself and save a lot of money.
And since the 750 is just like the larger engines you have learned them all really.
The tools needed and the skills learned will last a lifetime.
I still have all the same tools that I bought when I got my first job in a motorcycle shop.
And believe me if tools could talk they could tell you many great stories.
We are in a economic depression and this IS the best time to do things yourself and learn skills.
When the engine is finished you will know exactly how good it is because you did it your self. You will only have to pay for honing of the cylinders and maybe the valve guides. Make sure you use the HONDA tool for cutting the valve seats IF THEY NEED It. One and one half turns on the cutting tool. Do not use a car valve grinding tool. The honda tool may have 3 different angles on the valve seat face. Most HONDA dealerships have the HONDA TOOL, and can do it for you IF YOU NEED IT.
The rest is just hand tools.
Depends on the milage too. Do a compression test first.

Most "rebuilds" done in motorcycle shops on Japanese engines are TOP END jobs. The bottom end usually does not need any work unless it was ran out of oil. 90% of the time it is a TOP END job. Valves and rings.
    Clutch jobs too.
