Stock size is 180 and a friend is selling a set of Dunlop 208s for cheap with a 190 rear.

    How will this affect handling?
    Has anyone done this?

Dunlop website says it will fit.

I have heard it will fit but will slow you down just a bit going into a lean. I haven't done it so this is purely hearsay. I doubt for average riding it will make a ton of difference and let's face it, cost matters.

Yea it will fit on the rim, but I wouldn't do that, as one those really go on a 6" rim, VFR's I believe are 5.5" other than the 4th gen those area 5" rim Second, larger tire like that pinched down does nothing for you. could even slow down the turn in rate not that that is a huge thing, but worthy of the mention because it will effect the handling, then there's the fit in the wheel area, I'm not sure if it would clear like the chain guard etc?? of course this is my 2 cents worth.

190’s are to help with high speed straight line stability, some sort of bean counter’s bight idea to minimize litigation, no real need to go over a 180 section tire, plus they turn quicker. My 2 cents

thanks bobo. the only reason i'm considering them is for the highly discounted price $75 for the pair (mounted and balanced).

as for cornering and all that jazz, i WISH i cared...but living in central illinois hardly gives me the opportunity to turn at all!

I have a Dunlop 208 190 rear tire..It fit with plenty of clearance..Unless you are an experienced racer, you will never notice the difference..and it looks SWEET as there is more rubber under that huge tail section-it appears significantly larger compared to the old 180.

    190 looks  .

You really don't have to be an experience rider to notice the difference of 190 to a 180. Going on freeway on ramps, it will take more gas roll-on to keep your desired line on a 190s. The bike - at most times- would tend to stand-up when on a lean (hence the gas roll-on to keep it leaned). Once you get used to the "extra" effort to lean the bike, you'll come out of it with a better roll-off/roll on technique. Take that newly developed skills on sportsbike with 180s = faster turn and better technique.

Take it from me, here's a picture of my 600RR with 190s. It didn't stay on the bike that long though. After two weekends of canyon riding and a track day, the 190s came-off and back to 180s.
