    Hi Guys,

It's come to to give my helmet a clean. You know the drill, get the bugs and other crusty bits of and have the visor spotless. I use to use "Helmet Cleaner" made buy Shell. You just spray it on and it foams up, the you just wipe it off. Works well at getting bugs of. My last can ran out, so before I rush out and buy more I was going to see if any of you guys know of better claners.

The inside is starting to get a little rank too. I'd like to soak the helmet in "Napisan". It's got those Bio cleaner thingys in it. This stuff works well for smells and stains etc. But I don't know it it's harmful to the outer shell?

I thought most helmets came with a removable inner liner these days. If you can remove and wash it that would definitely be preferable to soaking the whole thing. As for the outside, soap and water.

Since my helmet has a removeable liner, I take it out & wash it in the sink with Woolite.

I clean the exterior with normal Windex & then wax it with the same wax I use on the bike.

I store my helmet with a used dryer sheet in it.

    KC-10 FE out...

Not sure what products in the states would be in the same line as MrMin, it's a furniture polish here in SA.

    Spray on.
    Leave for a few min.
Wipe off with anti static cloth> bugs of a week old on the helmet just come away.
Mr Min also takes away glare on the visor and leaves somewhat of a film that causes water to run off really well in wet weather.

For the inside I pull out the liner and wash it with my textile jacket and thermal underlayer:
    VERY little washing powder
    NO fabric softener
and machine set on a long cycle so that it gets rinsed very well.

Well with the amount of sweat build up in your helmet it's generally for hygene purposes that most helmets now have removable inners/liners so they can be washed. Most helmet manufactures have a guide on how the liners should be washed, or the whole helmet if the liners aren't removable...

I hate riding in the heat of summer when after a brekkie I need to put my helmet back on and it smells sweaty.

HAHA, well if you keen on giving that a try let us know what happens. LOL!
Most people suggest submerging a helmet without removable lining/inners in the bath with a very mild detergent the drying it in an airing closet or with a hair dryer that has a COOL setting as a hot hair dryer will break down the material that protects your noggin.

To freshen up the interior on non-removable types, use a baby powder dusting or baking powder, then rub it in by hand.

    removes oily spots and odours.

I have to hand it to you, Squirrelman. Not only are you an excellent mechanic, but you put Martha Stewart and Heloise both to shame!

So happens I just cleaned mine. The removable liners I just threw into the laundry. The shell, I cleaned much like that video. However, I am not confident intheir "no fg" face shields. I tread mine rugularily with Rainex and use a thin film of dishwashing liquid on the inside of the shield to prevent the fog. This worlks well adn you get wuite used to the minor film left behinf. I was quite surprised at the salt build up on the shell though. But then riding in the winter, I should know better.

I know there are those who would balk at me putting the liners in the laundry, bt this helmet is nearing three years old. I have done this a few times. And there are over 80,ooo km where this has been worns so I guess what I am doing is not hurting it that bad. I will be ordering new liners soon though. They do wear out.
