6th gen thermostat cross reference

    I'm about to do a thermostat swap on my '02, but paying that much for a thermostat seems a bit out of hand...

    I did some searching and found on VFRD a cross reference to a cheaper Tstat... The thread is about a 5th gen, but according to the bikebandit part number is the same.

    The link he provides is broken but here's a link I found with the product.

    It's a 180 degree unit.

    Does this look to be accurate? If I can get a suitable Tstat for a quarter of the price I'm all for it. I just wanted to check with more knowlegable people first.

    I added pics so go back and look. I would not use a 170F t-stat cause even with the honda civic 180F t-stat I'm using, my vfr runs too cool when its cold out. I have to cover up my oil cooler or the rad w/o fan just so it'll hit 170F and maintain it while on the highway. I believe the shaft diameter is bigger (I didnt take a measurement) on this t-stat so I believe I'm getting too much coolant flow. It'll be fine during the summer but I think this next winter I'm going to put in a stock t-stat and see if that fixes my cold problem. This t-stat is designed for a car with a lot bigger engine and a lot more coolant.


    I wouldnt mind running a 190F t-stat durning the winter and a 180 or 170 during the summer if replacing the t-stat wasn't such a chore. Still trying to get a deal on a 6th gen oil cooler.

    I'm just gonna stick with the OEM one. I don't want to dick around with cutting and trimming to make it fit...

    I believe I read somewhere that the Honda Civic thermostat has a larger sized hole in it (I think these are to help air bubbles burp out when filling)... if it's big enough, it might let enough coolant through to keep the bike from warming up on cold days. Kind of like a stuck open thermostat. Just a thought...

    After work tomorrow, I'm gonna swing by advance and take some measurements on the honda and nissan t-stats.
