I am looking at an 85 VF700 Interceptor (well, an ad until this weekend when I try to go see it in person) at a dealership. Does anyone know how available valve train parts are? Are there aftermarket suppliers or are these parts kinda drying up?

Also, does anyone know how much the oiling kit is and where I can get one if I get this bike?

the after market is dryed up for these bikes, as for a oiling kit i think dave dodge still makes the top end oiling kit...what are you going to use the bike for?

It will be my primary bike to ride during the year. I currently do not have a bike due to financial difficulties and this one has an asking price of $2500 with 22K on the clock.

just sold my 84 with 10,000 kms, parts are plentyfull in the used market, the cams usauly go on those bike at about that time unless good upper oil kit was installed early on,timming chains as well, not saying cams will go some origanal ones last for 80,000kms,some have been changed out 3x by 30,000kms,there are a lot better choices for a commuter bike at $2500.00.Mind you a nice looking older interceptor will get you in a lot more coffee shop ,gas station conversations, every body wanted that bike in the early 80s

I also won't have a lot of money to spend. It's not the only bike I am looking at, but ATM, it's the lowest price unless I buy a bike to fix up.

Subtract a G off their asking price, even if it's in great shape. You can buy a more reliable 2-3rd gen for that.

Last November, I passed on a '91 with 2x,xxx miles on it for $2,100.00 It had cracked headlight.

    2500$ seems excessive to me.
My 1985 700 looked like it came off the showroom, and had very little problems. I paid 1000.00 for it from a used bike dealer.
You could find a newer interceptor for the price range you are in. Probably something more suited for a daily rider that is reliable. Look for a VFR then a VF if you are going to spend that much cash.
    Either way, good luck!

Dealers always ask way T00 much.

If you can spend anywhere near $2500 you'd be able to find a gen 2 or 3, FAR better machines.

The VF series was flawed in design right from the factory, and another bike--even a Yamaha-- would probably be more reliable in the long run.

This thread is a kick in nuts to someone who just bought a 700.
My fault. I was one of those guys in the 80's...
