My bike seems to have significantly more vibration than I remember. I was told it might need a valve adjustment. I was also told by a buddy with a Honda Magna that it could be the throttle body sync.

Thought's? My bike has 20xxx miles on it.

How much should these services cost?

I have gotten quotes on the valve adjustment from $240 to $450.

    Thought's?

Remember, its just a check for $450 not an adjustment. If you fall within the specification range then they leave your shims as is. If one is out of spec then the labor rate goes up because its a pain to remove then cams and put them back in...esp the front ones (Cyl 2 & 4)

they specifically said they would replace the shims. Maybe I am confusing that with another call though, lol. I talked to quite a few techs...

On a cold morning does the bike hesitate to start? If so, that's a sign the bike needs a valve adjustment. With your bike having only 20K miles I have to wonder do you ride it hard? It's very rare for a VFR to need an adjustment at that mileage.

IMO, I would try a start valve sync first because that's easier and cheaper to do.

You are right, they replace the shims necessary to bring you to spec....only. What I am trying to say is that you may be all in spec but your measurements can be all over the place in the range. This is why I decided to do this myself and I miked every shim regardless of the makings that are on them and then used the smallest allowable valve clearance (for a 5th gen) which was .005" for intake and .011" for exhaust and made them all the same. Let me tell you the bike feels like it can pull a tree stump out of the earth at that setting.
