Ok, here we go. About four months ago, the starter relay plug got fried on my bike, so i bought a vfrness. I got it quickly, but ended up not having time to work on my bike. About two months later, i got around to installing it. I thought, hey.. that was easy. Well, i turned on the bike and ..... nothing.... So, i did some checking and discovered my ignition switch was bad.

Ebay here i come... and a new ignition switch is on its way. So, i get it quickly and just like before, stuff happens and i have to wait to install it. Now, to install it i had to do things the hard way because the shop manual states you should remove the triple clamp and i didnt have the right size wrench. So, i removed the upper faring to get easier access to the underside of the switch.

At the time i figured, hey i have some new plastic sitting around here i wanted to install anyway. Well i removed the side plastic, upper faring, and hey.. what the hell i removed the lower also. So, now i get to the switch and its a pain but i get it changed.

I turn on the bike, and it springs to life. But, not for long..... The battery has taken a dump. So, its off to my local dealer. One new battery later, and now the bike runs again! Yeah!!!

Now, i am looking at a naked bike sitting in my garage, but its able to run now so thats a plus.

As i stare at it, i think.... why dont you do an oil change and a coolant flush? Hell, the bike is all torn down anyway, why not? So, its back to the dealer to get a filter.

The oil change is a messy job, but not too bad. And, its sure easier and cleaner than doing the coolant!

I take a second and notice wow my starter switch is really old and the engine cut off switch is really loose. That sucks, so again, its EBAY to the rescue. I scored a brand new switch for $30. Yeah! That install was ok, but the throttle cables are a pain. Why cant anything be easy to install on our bikes? Oh, yeah the rear rim comes off pretty easy. joy!

Now that that is done, i again survey my garage. I spy a fox twin clicker that has been sitting on my shelf for ... geeeeezzz maybe 8+ months awaiting install. So, i tear into the bike even further. Off comes the battery, gas tank, and lots of other little bits.

Then i wonder... how am i going to get the back of the bike off of the ground to change the shock? Ok, internet here i come and two pit bull jack stands later the bike is up in the air safely.

It took me all day, lots of cussing, and i am sore... but its installed. And, i even got most of the plastic back on. New parts on the bike look great. I know you all want photos, but i'm tired and need an adult beverage.

Now, my bike has the following new bits installed.

    vfrness wiring
    ignition switch
    engine on/off starter switch
    battery
    oil / filter
    coolant
    fox twin clicker rear shock
    new windscreen
    new upper left side faring
    new mirrors

Now, i just gotta replace that air filter and ill get her back on the road.

The moral of the story is, there is no easy job, and one thing leads to another. blah blah, ok there is no moral, its just dave venting to fellow vfr owners.

Thanks for reading, hope it wasnt too boring. I thought maybe somebody would feel my pain. I am damm sure the wife dosent care much.

    Have a good night.

Yep I did something similar only in reverse.

Did the oil, oil and air filters, head and engine side cover gaskets then the electrical issue started yesterday.

Good luck with getting her finished.

I dug in to finally check the valves.. Ended up tearing into the emissions stuff around the carbs/airbox as well. Took an extra week to get around to checking the front valves after that.

But hey, it's part of what makes it fun, right?

I guess its fun now that i'm not cussing and laying on the floor. Sometimes i think this bike drives me to drink more beer and cuss around the kids.

Now that the bike is back together, i need to find time to ride her.

Yeah, I spent the last two months tearing mine apart in my apartment. Just basic servicing I guess, but with it staring back at me every time I was in the living room was irritating. The weather is finally getting better in the great state of Ohio. I spent 8 hours on my M50 Friday because the temps were over 32, (around 60ish I think). Now I just have to get my inspection and I can ride the vfr... Hopefully it will pass. I put more money into the bike than I would have liked, but it is basically they way I want it minus a gel seat insert.
