    Title says it all really...

pretty new to the biking world, have got myself a vfr800 fi-x '99 and when i bought it it had been sat in a garage for a long time.
Got my lass on the back soon after purchase and the extra weight combined with seals that were probably rotting has blown the dampening.

I need a new rear shock but can't afford brand new so reconditioned or 2nd is my only option. The question is: other than the stock shock, are there any other options available to me?

any advice is greatly appreciated, i'm fed up of bouncing around and having to take corners slower than a school bus!

    cheers
    Ian

Oh sure, there are some options. Besides modifications to the stock shocks, I've also done quite a few conversions of CBR929 shocks to fit the 5th gens. While these aren't a direct fit, there are a couple of ways to make them work. I modify the shock itself to have the correct length, others have made custom upper mounts. There are also some years of CBR900RR shock that are a direct fit. For any CBR shock, you would need a new spring at minimum.

    I hope this helps!

Ya! Get a used Penske off Ebay. One went last week for $350. If you give it a few weeks, you should get one for less than $400.~$500. I think you'll need a shock with Eye to Eye of 330mm, spring weight of 1100~1300lb and the proper mounts.
