    Hey -

I scored a great deal on a set of H4 xenon HID headlights for my 4G. The kit appears to be really high quality, and well built.

I had to "update" my headlight unit to accept the H4 bulbs (f#@* you, Honda for your stupid non H4 bulbs), and they fit great now.

My question is where I can locate the ballasts? They are about 5" x 4" x 1.5" (not small).

Option 1: There is enough room in the fairing to the left and right of the headlight, but no flat surface to mount them on.

Option 2: I have also removed the PAIR system, and there looks to be a perfect spot now just ahead of the airbox/carbs. I am concerned about the temps that will be in this area, though. There is just the right amount of wiring to locate them here.

    Any other thoughts?

If you have room to do it in the front fairing, do it there. Temps will be good as well as having good coverage from the elements. If you get a little creative with some high quality sticky-backed velcro and a few zip ties, they should stay put just fine. I'd say you are correct in worrying about temps when considering option 2. Things might be good while riding with sufficient airflow, but it is the time spent idling when stopped in traffic, lights, etc that I would be worried about.

In Vermont, there isn't much that passes for "traffic". The spot inside the frame is front of the airbox is where the snorkel and the PAIR hoses used to live. It actually is pretty voluminous, all things considered - there would be plenty of "air space" around the ballasts. I'd also think that they would be 100% protected from the elements (except heat). I'll take a snapshot of this location and post it later tonight.

I think that the location in the fairing would be rather exposed, especially during the first rainstorm or washing... Electrics and water tend to not like each other.

Im in RI and I mounted mine to the bike underneath the side fairings behind the blinkers on my 6th gen. Just zip tied them and velcroed them to whatever surface I could use that would not have them interfering with the fairing.

    good luck!

^^ There isn't enough room on the 4G to put them there. The wiring loom runs through that area, and the ballasts are too big anyways.

I ended up mounting them inside the frame (option #2 above), forward of the airbox/carbs. Currently, they are only held in by 4" x 5" pieces of foam tape, but I think I need more... I think the airbox is coming out again so I can drill holes for zip-ties to hold them down 100% - I don't want them bouncing around.

    Here's my solution:

The wiring runs under the frame spars and up to the headlight.

I had plenty of room to mount them between my headlights, behind the gauges.

^^^ That's exactly where I got them. $49.60 shipped to my door.

They are a little slow, though - took about 2 1/2 weeks after the order was placed. So if you're in a hurry for HID's...

As info, these are NOT the slim ballasts, in case you couldn't tell.

Just a quick follow up on this thread...

I just returned both of the ballasts to DDM, as one had quit completely and the other one was working sporadically and would shut off with the slightest bit of vibration.

I sent both ballasts back to DDM last Thursday, and they just e-mailed me to say that they are sending me two new ballasts, free of charge! I should have them next week, maybe the week after (doesn't matter to me, it's off-season for riding in VT).

I am still quite impressed with these HID's, despite the ballast failures that I had. The light output is amazing, and 100x better than stock. I still highly recommend this company and their product.

DDM is couple block from me, as for service they are real slow (One guys running the store) but they do hornor lifetime warranty. DDM quality is not great I just replace the 3rd set of HID on my Seqouia :chaingun:
