So, being in the US Navy means you get to take your family and move every 4 years or so. I'm currently in Boston but I will be getting deployed in July for a year and I have the option to move my family. Since I know there is a 99% chance I'll be stationed in the Hampton Roads area next I'm looking into moving the family down there soon so they can get situated. Also, that way my kids can get into a highschool and stay at the same one. Specifically I'm looking into the northern NC area (Elizabeth City, Hertford area).

anyone have any experiance in this area? Looks like an hour drive to Norfolk which I'm okay with. I'm looking into renting a 4 bed/2 bath (minimum) house. Prices look good.

    Opinions? Advice?

SD, I just retired from the Navy after 21 years. I was stationed in Norfolk at NOB from Dec 1999 till Oct 2002. I can't speak on what the area is like now, but you know as well as I do that nothing changes that much. I can tell you what I know, just let me know.

Oh yeah, I'm sure Norfolk hasn't changed since I was there on 02. That's why I'm trying to live outside of that area and commute everyday. I want someplace I can look forward to riding home everyday.

Yeah I know the feeling. Just a bit of advice though, don't live anywhere where you have to go through a tunnel to get to/from work. If you do, you'll add about 1-2 hours a day to your commute, and not the good kind. Sitting in traffic kind. Good luck.
