I use both brakes indenpendtly of eachother...I liked the last year gear drive cam bike, if one fell into my lap for the right price I might be tempted. Otherwise I despise linked brakes and ABS on motorcycles because aside from affecting the braking dynamics it complicates maintenance. Gona just keep riding my 3rd gen bike till the side stand rots off.
Dont get me wrong! as there's nothing wrong with a 6th gen. If I were stuck with a choice of a 6th gen or I4, I'd take the 6th gen without a second thought. It's just that the 5th gens~back had a nice character about them, they were more Borg like than other bikes.
safd, you really need to evaluate what it is that you want out of a bike. the 86 and 92 really are worlds apart. the 86-89 models were the first VFR interceptors, and this is the bike that pretty much helped honda pull themselves out of the shitter in the mid 80s. this is also my favorite way that ANYBODY has ever given the middle finger to harley davidson, as the 86 and 87 model 700's were nicknamed the "tariff beater" bikes, which basically were there to circumvent a GIANT tariff that HD had lobbied congress to apply to all imported bikes of 750cc and higher displacement. also, when the 86 VFR interceptor hit the showroom floors, it was NOT the sport touring bike that the VFR has evolved into. this was a straight up, balls out sportbike, and for a mid 80's bike, it rode like one and did a hell of a job doing it. it wasnt until the interceptor's first facelift in 1990 that honda gave it the single side swingarm, less aggressive seating position, and started the VFR's evolution to a sport touring bike. hell, it was hardly the same bike as it had been only a year prior (though you wont find any 88 or 89 models around, as they were never imported to the US). base your decision on what YOU want, and what fits YOU. all these new school fools around here will yell about parts availability, and so many other things, but we have the internet for gods sake, you can find just about anything if you look hard enough.
Hi, I am new here. This forum is full of great ideas from experienced riders. If I can add my humble comment on the choice of 86 vs 92, I would not choose either one unless you are willing to wrestle with old parts every weekend. With that money, you can buy decent 5th Gen, which I just did last month. Are you for riding it or fixing it?
