Took my 07 VFR in for the first service today. I had them put in Rotella 5W-40. The air temp got up to about 62 today which is as high as it's been since I got the bike.

I noticed that now I can't really tell if V-tec is kicking in in 1st gear, and it's barely noticeable in second. Third gear feels about the same.

    Anyone experienced something like this?

Watch your temp gauge, if it's under 150F it's not gonna kick on.

you shouldn't really feel it engage. if the bike is running correctly, it is up to temp, and you can hear a change in the exhaust note, it is working like it should.

Thanks for the advice everyone, it's running fine - it wasn't up to temp yesterday. Also the V-tec transition seems smoother at least in the first two gears now that the air temp is higher, and I think my bike likes the 5w-40 Rotella synthetic.

I think your bike will like any kind of motor oil in the engine. Seriously, Rotella is good stuff, esp. for price.
